Last Night Monday, March 30th, the Miami Heat franchise made history by retiring Alonzo Mourning’s jersey. Alonzo is the only Miami Heat player in the franchise’s 21 year history to have his jersey retired.  Alonzo Mourning was honored at the halftime of the Orlando Magic vs. Miami Heat game at the American Airlines Arena. Alonzo Mourning played for 15 years in the NBA. Throughout his illustrious career with the Miami Heat Alonzo Mourning played with the heart of a warrior and the eye of the tiger day in and day out.

In 2000 Alonzo was diagnosed with kidney disease and in 2003 he needed a transplant. Alonzo was told he would never play again but with the strength and the determination Alonzo returned and helped bring the only NBA championship to South Florida in 2006 alongside Dwayne Wade and Shaquille O’Neal. Alonzo Mourning has always contributed on and off the court, his charities and on going helping hand has left a huge impact on the South Florida community. His foundation’s flagship fundraising event Zo’s Summer Groove has raised an estimated 7 million dollars in its 12 years running. Alonzo also started the Zo’s Fund For Life which has raised 2 million dollars for the research of kidney disease as well as to help provide medications for those who cannot afford it.

Alonzo Mourning is not only an NBA Hall Of Famer but a role model and one of Miami‘s true legends. Alonzo Mourning is a true Warrior and we salute Zo for all of his hard work on and off the court.
