I’m guessing all those raunchy dance moves and sultry videos didn’t help Ciara’s album sales. Don’t get me wrong, the girl can dance, but dance moves did not help her numbers. Rumor has it that Ci Ci has been dropped from Jive Records after poor album sales of “Basic Instinct”. If this is true I can definitely understand, but I don’t put all of the blame on Ciara because the album was poorly promoted in my opinion.

According to rollingout.com her 2008 effort, Fantasy Ride, which was marred by a sudden change in the singer’s A&R and management, only sold 195,00 copies on the U.S. Her latest effort, which was to be a return to her original R&B roots— and commercial success, was even worse, selling only 40,000 copies in the U.S. This is troubling to me though, this is not the first female R&B to do poorly in these past couple months with record sales. Keyshia Cole also had surprisingly low record sales for her latest album “Calling All Hearts”, which I also thought was poorly promoted. Looks like I am starting to see a trend here.

Although Ciara may be down now, I definitely will not count her out. Maybe her next label home will be better suited for her, change is not always a bad thing. rumor has it though she may have something in the works with Universal or Interscope.
