Celebrity drummer Travis Barker claim to fame came when he first started out as a drummer for punk band Blink 182. Interesting enough, numerous amounts of people know him as that celebrity drummer that does serious drum remixes of a lot of Hip-Hop artists’ hits, however, very few know of his origins. As a matter of fact, some believe his career commenced after he began these drum remixes. Honestly, if you’re an artist or a musician, your love for music shouldn’t be limited to just one genre, you should be open to all music and at least give it a run. Travis Barker has been a fan of both Rock and Rap since he was young, it just so happens his unique talent lies with a drum set that normally meshes with a rock band, in this case, Blink 182. After a crazy brush with death, Barker is back on his two feet working like never before.

Today (March 15), Travis Barker officially releases his solo debut album entitled ‘Give the Drummer Some,’ a follow up to his ‘Let the Drummer Get Wicked mixtape released earlier in the month. At the same time, Barker is also still in the process of recording with Blink 182 for their reunion album, an album between the three after a 6 year hiatus. Barker recently spoke with Complex.com about his career within Hip Hop, after a career built from Punk and Rock & Roll.

These were his comments:

“There’s a lot of pieces to me and if some fans don’t like every piece, that’s okay, I got people who were mad when I played the Grammy [Awards] with [Lil] Wayne, Drake, and Eminem. That’s one of the biggest highlights of my life, and they’ll be like, ‘Stop playing this Rap shit!”

Barker continues his explanation of dabbling within the Hip-Hop realm, even using Bun B as a great example as Bun appears on two tracks with Barker:

“There’s nothing better than hanging out with Bun B and having him tell me he’s been listening to Radiohead like crazy. I’ve always been a confused kid and I’ve never grown up out of that. I listened to all types of music and no one judged me for it, and if they did, I told them to go fuck themselves.”

At press time, Barker has a lot work to do within the next couple of months and all the while he’s also a featured performer in the upcoming ‘I Am Music II’ tour alongside Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Rick Ross. Barker will have to find the ability to shuffle his time between recording with Blink 182 for an album they hope will be released this summer and performing live on tour with Lil Wayne. Either way, his solo album was released just today, right in time for the commencement of the ‘I Am Music’ tour that kicks off on March 18 in Buffalo, New York.
