Lady Gaga may or may not be your average lady, artist or musician, nevertheless the drop of her new album ‘Born This Way’ is about to break records of epic proportions. Lady Gaga’s fame is not like any regular artist that still roams the earth. It has become apparent that each single she drops will pave its way through the masses and eventually become a chart topping hit. So with literally hit after hit, her fame and creditability continue to rise further into the stars. And now with her new album just freshly released, the projections for her first week sales could surpass the highest numbers for any album in the past decade.
Honestly, this type of phenomenon has to happen every once in a while, it keeps music alive, no matter the genre and throughout history there have been some artists and musicians who make it to that level.
According to Billboard, Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ is projected to sell more than 1 million copies in its first week and could post the highest opening sales numbers in nearly 10 years. As a matter of fact, Billboard already reports that ‘Born This Way’ has sold more than 500,000 copies on its first day of release alone, including 330,000 copies on Amazon and 104,000 copies through iTunes. The album has also dominated physical retail, selling more than 45,000 units through Best Buy and 35,000 through Target on the day it was released. It was also made available in an unprecedented amount of non-traditional retail stores — more than 20,000 nationwide — including CVS Pharmacies, Whole Foods and Walgreens.
A decade has passed since a record number of sales reached that high for any album. Apparently the last time an album’s sales number reached its peak was in 2001 with NSYNC’s ‘Celebrity.’
According to MTV News, on Sunday, the album debuted at #1 on the U.K. album charts, selling more than 215,000 copies — the biggest first-week sales of the year — and also accomplishing the rather remarkable feat of outselling the rest of the U.K. top 10 combined.
At press time, the final U.S. sales numbers will be released on Wednesday.
