Beyonce’s Performance Not Cause of Super Bowl Blackout

Apparently the Superdome wasn’t ready for all that jelly when it hosted Super Bowl XLVII.  Shortly after Beyonce’s halftime show performance featuring a reunion with the Destiny’s Child ladies, the biggest football game of the year was put on pause due to a power outage in the stadium.

“There’s no indication at all that this was caused by the halftime show. Absolutely not. I know that’s been out there that this halftime show had something to do with it. That is not the case,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday.

Some speculate that the lights going out was due to the “Superdome Curse.”  According to The Washington Post, the stadium was built near the site of the old Girod Street Cemetery.  It was closed and deconsecrated in the 1950s.  When the foundations for the Superdome began being built in 1971, workers came across bones and caskets.  They moved everything out, but some of the spirits may have been upset during the moving process.

More than likely the 34-minute blackout was due to a power overload.  The Huffington Post reported the Louisiana Stadium & Exposition District released a memo on Oct. 15 stating that the Superdome’s electrical feeders showed signs of “some decay and a chance of failure.”
