Apparently, Kanye West is remorseful about wearing a skirt.
After spending the majority of his Watch the Throne tour wearing a skirt, West was recently struck with remorse and asked Getty Images to remove all of his photos from the Sandy Benefit Concert in December that featured him wearing a skirt on stage.
Folks are attributing West’s change of heart to recent comments made by Lord Jamar of Brand Nubian, who attested, “Kanye West is the pioneer of this queer shit.”
His new track, “Lift Up Your Skirt,” holds West accountable for feminizing hip-hop by introducing the genre/culture to wearing women’s clothing.
Instagram, Black man looking half a fag/ With a blazer and vest, I’m just amazed at the mess/Pioneer of this queer shit is Kanye West/He introduced the skinny jeans to the rap scene/Then he wore a fucking skirt on the video screen/Then he wore it again at a memorial/I can’t pretend that this shit ain’t deplorable/I bet this nigga thinking he looking adorable/Your music’s good but your ego is horrible
Here’s what Lord Jamar had to say about girly-man rappers:
“First of all, it’s not just jabs at Kanye West. It’s anybody promoting the feminization — of the Black man in hip-hop culture. Anybody that I see out there, rocking dresses and all of that type of sh*t, I might shoot a jab at.
But Kanye is one of the ones right now that’s representing that movement. He’s one of the first ones that you see in a skirt. Now you got other people following suit and rocking full-out dresses or they’re trying to rock kilts.
We’re not Irish. We’re not Europeans. Rocking kilts and all that is just another excuse to introduce that skirt style. You understand what I’m saying? And I’m not with it. This has nothing to do with sexuality, who they choose to be with and all that, I’m not even talking about that.
I’m talking specifically about, what is hip-hop? And that’s not hip-hop. Rocking dresses with mean faces, that’s not hip-hop.”
The Brand Nubian member says he’s speaking in hopes of keeping the Hip-Hop Man alive, an identity people like West are making obsolete. Lord Jamar says by sporting a skirt, West is promoting the black man’s feminization, an issue that’s thoroughly discussed in two books, The Extinction Coefficient: The Systematic Feminization of African American Males and Homosexuality and the Effeminization of Afrikan Males.
According to Gawker, Getty has confirmed that they were asked to remove the images from the wire:
Getty confirmed that they were asked to scrub their site of the several shots of Kanye from the 12-12-12 show they hosted. They wouldn’t say why.
As we know, West’s affinity for women’s clothing progressed overtime, and has influenced celebrities like A$AP Rocky, Vin Diesel, Chad Ochocinco, and more.
Why has the paradigm shift, and it’s become normal (and not homosexual) for a man to wear women’s clothing? Whose more susceptible to this trend: young boys or adult men? Are the music and fashion industry influencing black men to wear women’s clothing as a form of feminizing black males? Will black male artists be substantially rewarded for conforming? According to Lil’ B, yes and he cites ASAP Rocky’s debut album nabbing the #1 record spot on Billboard Hot 200 albums.
