After three weeks of testimony and an entire year later since Trayvon Martin, 17, was fatally shot by former neighborhood watchman volunteer, George Zimmerman, 29, a six women juror found Zimmerman NOT GUILTY of second degree murder, as well as NOT GUILTY of Manslaughter.
On February 26, 2012, Trayvon Benjamin Martin, an unarmed teen, was killed while walking home from the store during an altercation by George Zimmerman, who fatally shot Martin because he believed he was “a threat”. Zimmerman was later charged with second-degree murder, but pleaded not guilty, claiming he shoot the teen in self-defense.
If you’ve been watching and following this case, you would agree that it was an emotional and intense trial. After deliberating late Saturday night, the defense closed their statement and the prosecutor concluded their rebuttal argument. At 9:55 pm, Eastern Time, the non-diverse jury of six women, made up of at least 5 white women, came back with the verdict of NOT GUILTY.
The verdict was shocking to many Americans, after all the facts and evidences pointed to Zimmerman’s irresponsible action may have caused the death of the teen. Legal experts believe there were several misses by the prosecution that would have caused Zimmerman to be found guilty, based on the 911 phone call and witnesses, but they were not properly used.
A few minutes after George Zimmerman was found not guilty in the death of Trayvon Martin Saturday night, the dead teenager’s father tweeted his emotional reaction to the verdict.
Protesters have argued of lesser crimes being punished by harder sentences.
Michael Vick served 3 years in prison and was charge a $2,500 fine for forming a dog fight ring. Plaxico Burress was sentence to 2 years for shooting himself. Marissa Alexander sentence to 20 years in prison for shooting warning shots in the air to scare her abusive husband.
Is a dog life worth more than a human?? What’s the sentence and price for killing an unarmed teen who only crime was wearing a Hoodie??? Freedom?? If Trayvon have shot himself, would he have Justice then?? Justice for All………Hmmmmm that’s a tricky one.
