April 20, 2009 Billboard: Hip-Hop & R&B Top 10
Again and again Jamie Foxx continues to hold down the number one spot. What is it about ‘Blame It’ that fans love to request on, not a daily, but an hourly basis? This record has surpassed my tolerance for annoyance; it has reached the level of nuisance. When the track first aired on the radio, I actually thought it was just a T-Pain song, you don’t even hear much of Jamie Foxx on the track unless you listen real close. Somebody needs to make a track that can bump this song off the number one spot, don’t get it twisted; Foxx is talented, only the song has got to go. T.I. and JT tried their best with the ballad ‘Dead and Gone,’ but couldn’t do the job as that track peaked in at number 2 this week. That record right there deserves the number one spot weeks ago, ‘Dead and Gone’ actually has a meaning behind it, a tribute to TIP’s fallen brethren Philant Johnson. The melody within itself is the reason behind the successful track. T.I. and Justin Timberlake have always provided a hit track whenever they collaborate together on a Timbo beat, it is literally official. It is a real surprise that Keri Hilson and Wayne’s ‘Turnin’ Me On’ peaked in at number 3 this week when it has been battling for the number spot with Jamie’s ‘Blame It’ for the past several weeks. Hilson’s album is even doing quite well on the charts with the major assistance she is receiving from Timbo, Polow, and Danja on the production end of her debut. Her next single shouldn’t have a problem reaching these heights due to her talent and the beat behind it. Right under her, is yet another surprise, Soulja Boy’s ‘Kiss Me Through the Phone.’ Somebody tell me how this song got this damn far. I know it has got to be the kids that love this song, because the only part that is creditable to me is Sammie on the hook. I must admit the hook is quite catchy and it follows the flow of the melody, with a Jim Jonsin beat, I wonder why. ‘Kiss Me Through the Phone’ peaks in at number 4 this week. This week’s number 1 album on the charts is veteran Hip-Hop artist Jadakiss with his third album ‘The Last Kiss.’ Reigning in at number 2 and 3 on the charts is Prince/Bria Valente’s album box set featuring Prince and his protégée with ‘Lotus Flow3r/MPLSoUND/Elix3r.’ and yet again Keri Hilson’s ‘In a Perfect World.’
