In todays industry there are only a few producers that do their own thing when it comes to creating masterpiece tracks. Producers are now being forced to make the kind of musical sound that is   right now, from rock mixes to experimental beats. Most producers have a signature sound to show who they are which can limit them to branch out at times. But at far as the producer, music is nothing with out them. From the Timbalands to the Jim Jonsins producing has gone to new heights.

I got to speak with Grammy nominated producer Drew Correa whose co produced hits such as Lil Wayne’s” Mr. Carter” and highly speculated rock single “Prom Queen”. We go on to talk about how it is to record with platinum selling recording artist Lil Wayne and his attitude on how he feels about his idea for the rock album, the placements he has now and the hits he has boiling for the future.

24: First of all I want to say congrats on your Grammy nomination.

Drew Correa:
Thank you

24: When you were younger you had dreams of becoming a major producer. Now that you are a major producer do you feel comfortable where you are? Do you have any new dreams that you would like to fulfill?

Drew Correa:
I don’t think I’ll feel comfortable where I’m at. I never get satisfied where I’m at. I always try to go further. If I ever get comfortable I will probably stop producing movies, I would like to start scoring movies at some point, work on videos games, music wise. I like to stick with entertainment and sound.

24:
In high school you were a DJ and then Engineering was your forte. Now you’re a Grammy nominated producer. What do you think you would’ve done if you couldn’t do music?

Drew Correa:
Aw man i have no clue. Probably end up in the military. I couldn’t see my self doing anything else.

24:
From a listeners point of view Lil Wayne is a genius. What is it like being in the studio with ‘the greatest rapper alive’? Were there ever any disagreements on the vocals he laid?

Drew Correa:
Its a blessing, he clearly is a genius. He doesn’t write anything he’s very creative and he’s always pushing himself to do something different like he’s constantly evolving. He’s definitely great to work with and he’s a hard worker. He works crazy hours and he definitely deserves to be in the space he’s in right now. Honestly I don’t think I’ve ever disagreed, maybe he shouldn’t put a ad-lib at this point, but usually everything he does on my stuff I’m always blown away by he always seems to impress me.

24:
That Mr carter sample was sick.. Now that we all know you had Sharon Prescott do the vocals. How did you going into making it sound like a sample?

Drew Correa:
Thats a secret (laugh) a lot of EQ and compression and a lot different effects. I had my lil formula for it.

24:
The new single ‘Prom Queen’ has turned a lot heads and even caused some controversy. What were first thoughts when you heard the record?

Drew Correa:
I definitely thought it was gone cause some hate from the Wayne fans who expected him to rap or your average hip hop fan who doesn’t really listen to rap. This song is not really for that market. He’s trying to branch out to a different audience. I think it’s great that he’s trying to do something like that

24:
Of all of the records you have produced which would you say are your Top 3 favorites?

Drew Correa:
Mr. Carter, Prom Queen was crazy, and the record I did for Fat Joe we just recorded it.

24:
What is the longest recording session you have been in?

Drew Correa:
O god . I think it was like 28 hours. It was exhausting !

24: Besides Wayne, who is another artist you have enjoyed working with?

Drew Correa:
It was cool to work with Wyclef even though it was with Wayne too. Its just to work with Wyclef was really cool. I enjoyed all the fun sessions too, Trina was nice and cool to work with.

24:
We know that you’ve worked with Rick Ross, Gym Class Heroes, and Rihanna to name a few. Are there any artists you have not worked with that you look forward to working with?

Drew Correa:
Yea probably like Jay-Z, Nas, Method Man and Red Man I grew up to those guys.

24:
What can the world expect from Drew Correa in the future?

Drew Correa:
I got the new Fat Joe. I got a couple more tracks on the rebirth album, some stuff on Young Money album, the track with Travis from Gym Class , the Paulina Rubio (english) album, Rihanna’s new stuff and bunch of stuff that will pop up this year.

24:
You have a partner by the name of Infamous. How you guys meet? What does he contribute that makes ya’ll such a perfect team?

Drew Correa:
We actually met through Wayne. When i was engineering Infamous use to always come thru and play him beats. we both started working together here and there. We constantly would work together. Now we vibe real well together when we’re in the studio. We always have crazy ideas when we work together. When you put two creative people in a room the environment gets even more creative. He definitely has a lot of talent in music itself. we both like just click together

24:
If you could go back in the hands of time. What is a classic record you wish you would have made?

Drew Correa:
Whoa!. There so many. one of em would be Nas ‘If i ruled the world’. I always like that record. I always thought that beat was pretty dope.

24:
It’s said you don’t believe in signature sounds. Care to explain what you mean?

Drew Correa:
I just dont believe in having one sound. I’m very a.d.d. I like to keep everything sounding fresh and new and jumping around with different styles of music. So thats what i really mean by it.

24:
Well I can admit you have have an undeniable talent. What is your drive to keep going?

Drew Correa:
Just like music. I never really wanna slow down. I just wanna keep going and going, always evolving and learning, coming up new styles of music
