24: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are.

Dan Schwalb: My name is Dan Schwalb, and I founded “Six Borough Inc.”  We are a music promotion brand that sponsors upcoming artists.  Right now we work with a handful of emcees in the NY/NJ area.  We recently released a compilation mixtape title “Six Borough Inc. – Meet the Family”

24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about how you got into and what inspired you?

Dan Schwalb: I’ve always loved Hip-Hop music, and I realized that I wanted to pursue a career in the industry.  I had a few friends who made amazing music, and I felt that my best chance for landing an industry job would be to promote the artists I knew.  I reached out to a few internet emcees as well, asking if they would like to join the movement and get promoted. I wanted to take the DJ Khaled route, and release compilation mixtapes of these talented artists, in order to build my brand.

24: What was the Hip-Hop scene like for you growing up where you’re from?

Dan Schwalb: I’m from New Jersey, and I’m damn proud of that.  Because we’re so close to New York City, the mecca of Hip-Hop, Jersey remains in the shadows.  We never get respect in hip hop, or in general it seems.  There are a few artists from here that have made it big, such as Joe Budden and Redman.  But that’s nothing compared to NYC. I want to be the guy who makes Jersey a house hold name in Hip-Hop.  And Six Borough Inc. has the talent to do so.

24: What makes you Unique as an artist and different from other rappers out now?

Dan Schwalb: What’s unique is that I’m not an artist.  I am the promoter for numerous artists, all with serious talent.  These guys just need a little exposure, and they could change music.  I want to give them that exposure.  Guys like Russell Simmons and Rick Ruben are my idols.  They saw potential in unknown artists, and turned those artists into house hold names.  I want to do the same thing.

24: Tell us about what you are working on.

Dan Schwalb: Six Borough Inc. just released a compilation mixtape, titled “Meet the Family”.  It features songs from An0maly, Quite Frankly, Rudy Mills, Kid Karma, Kid Leo, Lefty, Shy Van Watts, A2Z, and JHurls.  I feel that some of these guys could become household names, and I want to be the reason for that.

24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?

Dan Schwalb: Rudy Mills and Kid Leo, both of whom are on the Six Borough mixtape.  Rudy Mills makes some of the most amazing beats, and he produces every single song that he raps on.  Kid Leo is an emcee that is just now getting back into beat making.  He has experience from back in high school, so it’s only a matter of time before he releases great beats himself.

24: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released?

Extremely happy.  After the Six Borough Inc. tape released, I was getting emails about people wanting to “merge companies” with me, and things of that nature.  I never expected all that.  I simply wanted to help these guys promote their music, so that I could make my way into the industry myself.

24: In today’s free download age, what do you need to do to make your self a household name?

Dan Schwalb: You need exposure, simple as that.  People will download your tape if they can hear it.  That’s why tools such as twitter and facebook are amazing, you can reach so many people that way.  And sites such as this one are great too, where you can have your material for so many to see.

24:  How do you feel about the current state of the Hip-Hop scene ?

Dan Schwalb: I love the current state of Hip-Hop. Guys like Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole are amazing lyricists, and yet can still be heard on the radio.  And the legends like Jay-Z and Nas are still at the top, despite being around 40 years of age.  I remember a time when hip hop was about “getting crunk” and “snapping fingers”, and I hated that.  It’s good to know that real lyricism is back at the forefront.

24: Outside of the music, what else are you currently working on?

Dan Schwalb: I just go to college, and will be graduating soon.  Other than that, music is the main thing I’m focused on.  I plan on spending the next few years trying to pursue a career in the industry, making as many connections as possible.

24: Where do you see yourself going in 2013 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?

Dan Schwalb: I see Six Borough Inc. continuing to get recognition in the mixtape circuit.  We work with too many talented guys for us not to.  What seperates Six Borough from the average artist is that we don’t have one fan base… we have 9.  Every artist I work with has their own following, and so my tapes are able to reach them all.  That’s why I’m so confident about the future, because I’m getting so many people involved.
