24: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are.

Famou$ J: I be that tatted motherfucka Famou$ J, don’t forget that dollar sign my brotha (laughs). On some real shit I’m just somebody trying to make it out here off my love of music. Hopefully I’ll be that same dude that puts my city on the map, Queen City, Charlotte NC, if you ain’t know, which I’m sure you didn’t (laughs).

24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about how you got into and what inspired you?

Famou$ J: Of course to keep it g my younger years was all about shit like Power Rangers and Wrestling and shit like that, I wasn’t even thinking bout music (laughs). I grew up in the early 90’s and my swag depicts a lot of early 90’s style, but I didn’t really get big on music until late 90’s when I first heard that Eminem “My Name Is”, it was a wrap from then on. Em is the whole reason I started writing raps, he will and still be one of the greatest rapper of all time to me. That’s where a lot of my witty and crazy lines come from, growing up listening to a bunch of Eminem and them D12 niggas. I also grew up listening to a lot of Cam’ron and that whole Dipset clique, the whole Roc-A-Fella team, mainly up north shit. Them niggas was so real to me, they were the meaning of swag around that time. The homie Loso (Fabolous) was always one of my favorites as well. Every rapper I was ever a fan of has an influence on the way I rap now, I’m just a collage of everything I love and am a fan of.

24: What was the Hip-Hop scene like for you growing up where you’re from?

Famou$ J: Like I said before, I was into music in the late 90’s which was around the time I first started living in Charlotte, and around that time Charlotte really didn’t have they own sound that you can identify, well at least one I was a where of. So I ended up listening to whatever I was in to which was mainly east coast rap at that time, but of course I later became a lover of that south shit when Jeezy hit.

24: What makes you Unique as a artist and different from other rappers out now?

Famou$ J: I would say the thing that makes me different is the same thing that can be said about the way I dress, I just don’t get a fuck about nothing (laughs). I do what I want cause at the end of the day you got to please yourself and do what makes you happy before you can even try pleasing anyone else. In this case it benefits me cause a lot of other people love what I’m doing as far as my music and style.

24: Tell us about what you are working on.

Famou$ J: As of right now I’m just writing songs for my next tape, but while I’m do that I still plan on shooting a few more video from my current “Fast Food” mixtape. Also, I plan on just trying to hit the streets to promote myself, and I’m most def trying do some shows and get some of that show money, just whatever it take to get my name out there. I got a lot of shit on my plate I got to get done before the end of the year if I’m trying to make it to that 2014 Freshman page on XXL (laughs).

24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?

Famou$ J: On my mixtape I worked a lot with my young cuz Bankroll Bird, if you don’t know who he is you might not want to sleep on bruh. That’s my word if bruh get the right marketing he’ll be the next Drake no bullshit. Bruh is talented, so working with him was a no brainer. I worked with my homie Absouloop on that “I love my life” track which was more on some laid back shit. Also, I pulled a Trinidad move and got a beat off youtube from this producer name Bishop which we used for that “Gold Teeth” track. I most def would like to get a chance to work with bruh on some more music but this time on a more personal level being I never got to chop it up with him. So if you see this interview homie hit me up. I got a track from the homie FYI for my first single called “GONE”, and I want to thank myself as well cause I put in most of that work as a producer for my own shit, so thank you Famou$ J (laughs). As far as who I would like to work with I have no clue. I mean the name of the producer ain’t that big a deal to me, I’m all about what’s ya work like. I can work with anybody if they great at what they do.

24: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released?

Famou$ J: (laughs) Other than the hating ass bloggers on Worldstar who just don’t care for anything unsigned, I’ve been gaining some fans who really fuck with me and what I’m doing the long way. I think it’s safe to say I’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback, so I’m most def happy with the way things are turning out for me at this moment. Shit in my eyes I’m feeling like I already made it just off I fact people are really supporting my whole movement. And I’ve been having a few unsigned artist who want to work with me that I really think are pretty dope and would be a asset to what I’m trying to accomplish.

24: In today’s free download age, what do you need to do to make yourself a household name?

Famou$ J: Really that’s all on my fans to make me a household name, that word of mouth is a powerful tool. So as far as my part goes I guess I got to do what it takes to keep my fans happy while gaining more fans, but at the same time staying true to myself and creating my own lane. At the end of the day your fans determine how big you become.

24: How do you feel about the current state of the Hip-Hop scene?

Famou$ J: I like it, you got alot of creative people out there making a name for themselves like A$AP Rocky taking over right now, I most def fuck with bruh. And I like ScHoolboy Q, it’s alot of new faces taking the game over. Lets me know I got a fighting chance (laughs).

24: Outside of the music, what else are you currently working on?

Famou$ J: I guess just fucking hoes and enjoying myself (laughs). Don’t really got too much other shit going on to keep it g, just living life.

24: Where do you see yourself going in 2013 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?

Famou$ J: I can’t really say where I’m headed only God knows but I can tell you this, whatever my plans are failing in not a option. As far as separating myself… I’ve always been the type to do what I can to stand out, and that goes for everything so it wouldn’t be any different with my music. I am who I am take it or leave it it’s that simple. So when it come down to it separating myself is the least of my worries, I’m more concern with putting myself out there for people to see me. The more I become visible the closer I am to my goal which is just being known for something. It doesn’t hurt that the something I want to be known for is what I love to do, which is talk shit over beats (laughs).

24: How can fans go about contacting you?

Famou$ J:I would facebook is the best way for the fans to talk to me as of right now. I can’t saying I’ll have that facebook page forever tho cause facebook be doing a bunch of hoe shit like keeping me from added and writing people cause I was trying to promote too much I guess (laughs). They don’t want niggas trying to come up on they shit (laughs), damn scrubs. My twitter… I be on it sometimes but mainly for promo, but that cause I only got like 100 followers (laughs). Maybe when I get more followers I’ll get on that shit more often, so follow me @FamousJCarter, and if you trying to see swag at it’s best follow me on instagram @FamousWho. I’m on that all the time. Oh yeah my facebook is under my real name, at least until I make a facebook music page.

24: Thank you for providing 24HourHipHop.com with this exclusive interview, do you have any last words for your present and future fans?

Famou$ J: Yeah I would like to let them know I got love for everybody that supports me and I’ll do everything I can to leave my mark in this industry. And as far as some words to live by, never be content, you can always do and be better.
