24: Intorduce yourself to everyone that doesnt already know who you are?
For everyone who don’t know me -..I go by the name “Jay Bundy” aka “Jay Bundz”. Im a hip-hop musician born and bred in Little Rock, Arkansas. Ive been recording music for around 10 years-and doing this for a serious large-scale level for about 5 of those years. I released my first solo project in 2010 (Bundys Theory: Green Room and a Studio). Ive released 4 solo projects-to date (all of which can be found online atdatpiff.com for free download). Im a 24 years young vet in the game. Already I’ve had the blessing and opportunity to work with Legends like DJ Green Lantern and DJ Drama as well as open up for acts like Cyhi The Prynce, Crooked I, Bun B , and Trina. If you haven’t heard of me (jayBundy) and this RockCityCouncil wave yet you will soon. Im definetely bringing a new level of freshness and originality to the game. .. Its “Bundys Theory”..Get prepared for the takeover
24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about
how you got into and what inspired you?
Ive always been into music-for as long as i can remember. Music was my first love..I can remember being 2-3 years of age treating my grandparents bed post like it was a drum set with anything i got my hands on that i could treat like drumsticks..and as a lil ninja i had rhythm with it too. I can remember being 8-9 years old -back before the cd burners where if you wanted to get your favorite song to listen to you had to record it from the radio with a blank cassette. I remember waiting all day for the radio to play my favorite songs at that time so i could record them on a blank cassette so i could listen to them when anytime i wanted on my cassette player.I probably starting really freestyling around 10-11 years old with friends. Around that time i did more poetry than i freestlyed raps. Poetry played a big role in me helping me decide to write my first rap verse. They both are so similar to me in theory. And it was a good way for me to be my own counselor at times and talk out my own personal problems. I remember at the start i would just freestyle and rap for the fun of it-but it seemed like everything i rapped or freestlyed around people they were in “awwe” with a lot of the things i said and how i put together lines.. I remember the older cats  use to always tell me at a young age that i was going to be “the truth” with the music when i got a little more age under my belt. I was looked at as a “prodigy” for as long as i can remember. But i didn’t really start to take it serious until around 19-20..After i had been through a lot of “real life” trials/tribulations..and had more to say and more importantly when i knew who was at a person. Around that time is when i really knew music was my “calling”. Music is and always has been my life. Couldn’t live without it.
24: What was the hip hop scene like for you growing up where your from?
Growing up where I’m from (little Rock, Ar) the music scene has always been very rich and appreciated. Its kinda like watching a huge basketball/football game from the stands ..talkin “nosebleed” seats..Its a lot of die hard fans that go unnoticed from that vantage point. Also, its a lot of talent that gets overlooked from the vantage point..The camera man hardly ever focuses his lens that high up so those people get overlooked a lot. So it can be frustrating  sometimes for someone who knows they can do the same things and better that a majority of  those people that are on that field/court. You just gotta know how to use that as positive motivation to make it on that field/court. Most definetley gotta work a little harder. But nonetheless, the hip-hop scene has always been huge out here. We have just been lacking that big pioneer movement in the past to bring our city/state to the forefront of the hip-hop genre. That is one of my main goals as an artist from Little Rock,Arkansas. I would like to shed light on my positive light so that others talent from my city can get the opportunity to shine. We are tired of watching from the bleechers. We trying to get on that court/field..we trying to get in the game now.
24: What makes you Unique as a artist and different from other rappers out now?
What makes me unique as an artist is Im giving you my life, my life experiences, and my overall point of view..Im giving you something that you haven’t heard before .Not Lil waynes Theory..Jeezy’s theory. Not 2pac’s Theory..Im giving you “Bundys theory”.This all me..my ideologies and thought process. Something you can’t get from anyone or anyone else b/c there is only 1 Bundys Theory. More importatnly than that-i can actually rap. I have a god given gift for putting words together. This is my calling..And you’ll get the feeling after listening to just one of my projects. And I’m doing this for all the right reasons. I actually gotta love for music and passion for creating it. Its bigger than just for the fame or money..Music is my life. I couldn’t cope with life with this. Music is my therapist..music is my addiction ..music is my drug..but a lot of these “artists” don’t love this form of art like that. and it shows in their music..The music sounds garbage.. Its like going to a restaurant where to “chefs” with cooking aprons present you a plate of food and of the chefs is an impostor. The food will immediately speak for itself. You’ll be able to immediately tell who can really cook and cares about how the person eating his food feels about how the food tastes and who  is just really trying to “get by” to get a check. I feel like that-my music and work ethic will speak for itself. Quality-Quality-Quality..Im giving you quality and quantity. Ima have gave y’all 3 classic all original projects at the end of this year alone. So thats what is gonna set me apart. My work ethic and my quality..and my originality… …Its Bundys Theory..
24: Tell us about what you are working on?
Currently I’m working on my 5th Solor realease titled “Bundys Theory: Birds of a Feather” The Mixtape produced my RockCityCouncii producer “Walk-Mane”. Im to realease that on 9/11 this year. Thats going to be one of my more thought provoking projects. Also, I’m working on my follow-up project to that that id like to drop this New years Eve titled “Married 2 the Muzik ” Vol.1. Im expecting that to be the project that really raises me to that national level that i wana be at. But i got a lot that I’m working on. Just trying to stay as busy as possible. You know they say “when you stop moving your legs and arms you bound to drown”…So i have no intentions on slowing anything down anytime soon. Im nowhere near the finish line.
24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?
Ive worked with names like DJ Drama, Dj Green Lantern, Wu Tang Clan Official DJ-DJ Symphony, Dj boogie, Dj Robbe Dee from California, and Shadyville/Gunit DJ Young Cee from Florida. I want to work with everyone. From the names to the “no-names”..from “new” to seasoned.. Id love to work with producers like Don Cannon, Swizz beats, Kanye west, Just blaze, Justice League, Mike Will, Alchemist, Timbaland, Pharrell,,..i can go on for days as far as producers..Basically anybody who is “hungry” and has a real love for creating music I’m willing (and would want) to work with.Thats my main measuring tools moreso than anything .Stature doesn’t matter with me. Each producer has their own style and that style is going to bring a different style out of me ..so i love it..i love it all..And any producers who want to work with me-please get at me..lets make some classics.
24: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released?
Im very happy from the feedback I’ve been getting form my music. initially , after releasing my first project “Green Room and A Studio” I didn’t know what to expect as far as  response is concerned from my music. I mean i know it was great “next level” music but i didn’t know how receptive people would be..But people have been very receptive to my music so I’ve been extremely happy with that. Its really just motivation for me. makes me work harder to top the previous work that was realeased that fans were previously in “awwe” of. It keeps me constantly battling my previous work.and I’m my biggest critique so i appreciate that. Also, it just helps keep things in perspective yet..because I’m no I’m nowhere near my prime..so if people love my current music like they do now i know I’m really going to blow peoples mind when they hear some of my new music..or more scary than that my future music that i haven’t even recorded yet…The best is yet to come…Im only getting better with time.
24: In todays free download age, what do you need to do to make your self a household name?
That kind of goes back to what i was mentinoing earlier in regards to the quality. Regardless of all the options/availability for free music people are going to go for what they can get the easiest-with the highest quality. So I’m just gonna flood the market with consisitent high quality music and a consistent rate. and in todays age you really can’t just rely on online material (mix tapes) alone. People want to see you out here..They want to feel like they are apart of your movement so in order for that to take place you have to visible in all areas. So along with the mixtape game (online mixtape download sites) you also will see me everywhere else from magazine placements/advertising (such as Coast2Coast magazine and HipHopWeekly) as well as online hip-hop websites (such asindustryallaccess.com) as well as live performances, commercials, radio advertising..anywhere you can reach people and grab someones attention thats where you gotta be. And thats what you can expect to see out of Jay Bundy and RockCityCouncil. Also, you have to keep in my mind as an artist this game is 90% business and 10% music. You gotta have both. and most artists are 1 dimensional and only have one. Either they are a hell of an artist but have no business sense or they are very business savvy but have no musical talent. To have both of those skills is very rare. Its only a chosen few. And i feel i have both of those qualities.

24: How do you feel about the current state of the hiphop scene?
I love where hip hop is now. Its in a good place. Its getting back to the essence of hiphop. Which is creativity , originality and pure artistry. Its not all about credibility as much as it is about having real musical talent about actually having something to say..and have a true way with words..just my personal opinion…There are a lot of different styles to hip-hop that are currently relevant which is good because from the start hip-hop has never been 1 dimensional. Each region always had its own style or delivery-so its good to see more styles represented on a mainstream level that just one or two at a time. Everyone who listens to hip-hop isn’t a gansta ..or “ballin”..or makin it rain in the club every weekend. So as a person i love to hear all walks of life represented in hiphop..because hip-hop is all of those things and more..Its kind of like a reality show that depicts a star character in a certain way just for ratings..They gona make “Character B” look ignorant because they know its easy to promote..but in actuality if they used the majority of the footage they taped “Character B” really should be portrayed in an intellectual, humble and respectful light. I think thats the entire story of hiphop. For a long time only 1 side of the culture was being exposed and represented..just the “street life” or ignorant talk..but thats not the only type of music that artists have been releasing nor is the only factor of hip-hop..it just was the only thing represented..But now i think things are becoming more balanced in terms of content. I suppose we are getting some new “directors”behind the scenes who are allowing more of the footage to be seen. And i love it
24? Outside of the music what else are you currently working on
Outside of music I’m working on my brand as a whole “RockCityCouncil”.. I want “RockCityCouncil” to be like No Limit was in the 90s..A Dynasty..way more than a record label. I want it to be a clothing brand/clothing store chain/restaurant chain/fresh produce seller/real estate agency.etc.etc.. I have a lot of ideas in terms of growth and expansion but i like to focus on 1 thing at a time..i was always taught “the best way to eat an elephant is 1 piece at at time”..you can’t do it all at once.So id prefer to focus on this music portion for and foremost since thats most near to my heart -and means the most to me..ONce i get that to that point of expansion then I’ll look into the next form of growth. so as of now I’m just doing my pre-planning and market research and all these other ideas so when the time comes i have all the information and knowledge i need to make the most productive marketing decision to capitalize on opportunity and time…..Word from the Wise..Never put all your eggs in one basket.but in the same breath never spread yourself too thin…Now thats “Bundys Theory”..
24: Where do you see yourself going in 2012 and how do you plan to
separate yourself from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?
I see myself ending 2013 even stronger than i started it. Thats More shows..More recording..More projects completed..More Online Interview..More magazine placements.More promotion..you might want to keep your eyes peeled for a few tv commercials..MTV Jams possibly..(*hint-hint*)..Just more of everything..to the 10th power..And I’m setting myself apart by my grind and work ethic..and quality of music.. Cant nobody do it as good as me..And I’m setting out to prove that to myself as well as to the world..Im putting it all together-consistency, work quality and a “mean marketing scheme” as well as a strong team behind me..Scratch that.. i got an “Army” behind me ..add that to this No-sleep grind approach i got going..We comin like a train going full speed down hill..with no brakes.. RockCity
