We get a chance to sit down and catch up with North Miami Representer and Supafli Entertainments
Super artist Smokey. This experienced and talented artist is walking with Dade county on his back and
Supafli Ent pushing him to the top. Smokey not only has been making records with some of Miami’s hottest artists like Flo Rida, he has also done collaborations with some of the best in hip hop today.
We get the chance to catch up with him and see whats expected to come in the future from a
young super star who is taking off!

24:Introduce yourself, your name, and what company you work with.

Yea this Smokey 305 representer along with Supafli Ent. Holding it down for the whole Dade county.
24:Ok so how long have you been doing music?

Ive been doing music professionally for 5 years but I’ve been rapping over 10 years.

24:So what would you have considered to be your first big break?

My first big break is gettin the track “What Girls like”.

24:How did that track come about?

Well working with Take 2 and nit trouble inside the studio basically they came up with the hook. They gave me the beat and we rocked it from there. And we’ve been promoting it ever since. and making it happen.

24:OK whats your current label or management situation?

Right now I’m indie under Supafli Ent but we have a few record labels and execs looking at us.

24:So how did the Flo Rida and Git Fresh collaboration happen for the “Girls Like” record?

They basically heard the record and supafli got them involved in the record and that made that shit extra bananas that what it was before.

24:Now what point did you say to yourself “Ok This thing can really happen” how did you feel when things started goin.

Well I had high confidence with the track. I knew it was not only a radio banger but a club banger also. So my confidence because of the hand I put into it reassured me.

24:How would you describe your style or what do you feel you bring to the table for hip hop?

My
style is very different very unique, something you will not find with
another artist. Very distinct very creative I talk about different topics. If you listen to my songs you will relate to it no matter if you were raised in the suburbs or the streets.

24:Also what genre of music gets you in the zone to create good music?

I
listen to all types of music no matter if its, hip hop, rock I listen to
all types of music. As long as it has expression to it I listen. But I mostly stick with hip hop that’s my genre.

24:What are some of the things in the past year has kept you inspired?

Well
the pay off for me is the recognition. Its the hard work you put in
that keeps you motivated. And the recognition is the pay off and what you put out is what you get. So basically I’m expecting a lot more in the future.

25:What was one of the hardest parts of getting to where you are now?

One
of the hardest parts was getting no sleep, and a lot to do with
sacrificing a lot. But it aint hard at the end of the day its just
something you have to do.

24:So what part of Miami are you from?

North Miami Beach to be exact “representing”.

24:What would you do different if you could go back through your career.

I
really wouldn’t do anything different. You learn from your mistakes.
When I got with Supafli how to invest my money and promoting
differently, but other than that nothing would have changed.

24:Who are the people who have been most important to your success?

My
mother, My self, doubters “Haters to be exact.” and there’s a lot of
people in the industry who have inspired me to do music at the end of
the day.

24:So who have you had the opportunity to work with?

Well
having a track with Flo Rida get fresh on the single we pushing now is
very very awesome. I have a track with Juelze Santanna called “Swimming
in my Money”. I got another track with Jason Dorulo, and I
have another track with Pusha T from the Clipse. All of those are
enjoyable we just making fire music. I enjoy working with producers
like Take 2, Fliptones, Nate trouble. A few more but those three are the ones who helped me start my career.

24:So what would you consider your “almost there” moment so far?

Almost
there is when people you don’t know hear your music and they be like
damn they blown away. Rather than from someone in your hood, I would
rather hear it from someone who don’t know me. That lets me know I’m
almost there and working with Supafli.

24:So explain to us a little more about Supafli.

Supafli
is a indie record label. They have taken care of me telling me what I
need to do. I feel real comfortable working with them they are good
peoples. They will take to to the level of success I need to be at. Out of all of the other offers I’ve had they are the ones who gave me the best offer and they’ve been sticking to there words.

24:What other artist has Supafli worked with?

They
have worked with Charlie Hustle, Test Drive. We currently have me
“Smokey”, RL and we have Akari under the label. We doing pretty good as
far as Supafli goes.
24:Cool cool, So how can people get in contact?

You
can hit me on my Twitter SmokeyFli or you can hit me up on Myspace.com/smokeyfli, or on You Tube. And if you see me in the streets say whats
good that’s where I be at at the end of the day.

24:So do you have any words for the younger artist who are trying to get in the industry?

Just
stay focused and stay on the grind. If you really tryina get it just
know it consist of no sleep, a lot of focus, and no b/s. Time is money
and money is time so don’t try and waste it.
