24: How’s everything with the famous Sumayya Newman?

Sumayya: Everything’s great, business is great…Got a lot of new clients!

24: Before we get into the business let’s start off with your beginnings. I know that Sumayya Newman came from somewhere, everything has to start in one point in time so let’s start off with your humble beginnings.

Sumayya: I’m from Washington D.C. I came to Miami in 2004 for art & design school, I majored in fashion design and after about a year and half I spent a lot time in the entertainment industries doing styling work and fashion show. I moved back to D.C. and opened a car dealership, a small used car dealership but got sick of it and decided to move back to Miami to do bail bonding. But when I got here I decided to do lace wigs on the side because that’s what I had started to do when I was doing the styling work. Then it just kind of took over and crushed everything in its path because it took off so fast.

24: It’s obvious you’re a hustler and very talented business woman. So how do go from selling cars, to doing bail bonds, then back to doing lace wigs?

Sumayya: (Laughs) Because that’s where the money is! You got to go back and follow the money.

24: You mentioned fashion shows; you want to talk a little more about the fashion shows you were in?

Sumayya: We did fashion shows for Ozone Magazine. We actually did the Ozone Award Show in Orlando, we did training for that. We also did award shows D.C.; the Gold & Silver Awards with Glen Jackson, we did that for a few years. He traveled all over the country… California, Miami, & D.C. He goes everywhere to put on hair shows. We recently got asked to go on a tutorial tour to teach how to do lace wigs all over the country, so we’re working on putting that together.

24: Let’s get into business; If a client needed to customize or get a lace wig how does that work

Sumayya: First we would evaluate the look that they’re going for, whether you’re going for school girl, business woman, or sexy. Then we’ll decide the style based on that. We’ll measure, fit and take different color blotches and put them to the clients face/skin to see what works.

24: Are your wigs ordered or do you have them in stock?

Sumayya: We have at all times at least 50 human hair wigs in stock & that’s not including synthetic wigs which are just like our human hair wigs. But if a customer happens to order a wig we don’t have in stock we order them, which take about 3-4 weeks because we make it from scratch.

24: What if someone has a music video & need it right away; do they pay more to make the process quicker?

Sumayya: Of course, if need it right away I can make it happen. We’re able to customize wigs right in the store so if you call me up & say you need a red wig I can make it happen without a problem.

24: So with all that said, how many wigs do you usually sell within a month?

Sumayya: We sell about 2,300 wigs a month.

24: Does that make you one of the biggest lace wig manufactures in Miami?

Sumayya: We are getting there. There are a lot of wigs being sold in Miami but we have a personal touch that we apply from start to finish. We do removal, repair & applications, everything lace wig. That’s our main focus, and then we put on the accessories. We’re also working on doing a makeover show for people recovering from cancer.

24: Before we get into the business behind your store, we’ve recently heard that you’ve been selected to spearhead and headline this big charity cancer event. What made you decide to go ahead with it, who are you trying to reach, and what are your goals with it?

Sumayya: Cancer is something that affects each and every person in some way. The statistics we are all 3 degrees away from Cancer. So with something that is so massive, we should be doing something massive to find a cure. I wanted to become a big part of it, I know a lot of women begin to lose their hair, so why not give it back anyway we can?

24: What gave you the idea go forth with this event or was it something in your heart that you wanted to do?

Sumayya: Well, a dear friend of mine, Ms. Tiffany Prince, her mother has actually suffered from cancer and she lost her battle a couple of months ago. It just touched my heart and I really, really wanted to do something to show her that there’s a different way to cope.

24: We’ve also heard that ‘Let’s Get Laced’ will also be providing the wigs for ‘Kiki’ from 99 Jamz as well as for the commercials and such?

Sumayya: Oh my goodness, Kiki is the funniest. If you can make over Kiki, you can make over anybody, (laughs). Benji Brown is hilarious, I’ve been following him for years, so I just wanted to do something so we could collaborate together.

24: So the next big thing on the agenda for ‘Let’s Get Laced’ is the Bronner Bros. Hair Show in Atlanta?

Sumayya: Yes, we usually don’t do hair shows but we started grass roots promo, so this is our first venture into hair shows that we got pushed into accidentally. I was asked to come out to educate for the show and in doing so, they were like “here take this booth.” “So I was like what are we going to do with this?” So lets just say we’re going to do something BIG!

24: So I know you’re not going alone?

Sumayya: I’m bringing the whole Let’s Get Laced Team with me. We have a whole new line of ‘Let’s Get Laced’ products and we’re going to introduce them to everyone who’s there.

24: How can the readers find Team Let’s Get Laced at the Bronner Bros Hair Show, if they were to attend?

Sumayya: We will be in Booth 737 & 739. Make sure to stop by, we are giving away FREE samples, goodie bags and hosting live demos that you don’t want to miss.

24: Besides Laced wigs, what else does ‘Let’s Get Laced’ have to offer as in accessories and such?

Sumayya: We have everything from shoes, make-up to accessories for you and your dog. We are also partnered with some boutiques in the area, so we can actually do clothing and makeovers as well.

24: So essentially, what makes ‘Let’s Get Laced,’ is it the hairline?

Sumayya: Yes, it’s the hairline but it’s also the products. We have a product right now we just launched called the ‘Miracle Soothing Cream.’

24: What does the ‘Miracle Soothing Cream’ do?

Sumayya: I swear, it can tame the savage beast.

24: So when you wet and you braid your lace, then pull it sometimes,in my experience, in a few weeks it gets a little dry and frizzy. Does the soothing cream vitalize it?

Sumayya: You put the soothing cream on then you comb it or brush it in and becomes like silk. It feels so good, I love it, I swear by it.

24: You swear by it?

Sumayya: Sure do and the best thing is it’s for natural hair, wig hair, any type of hair.

24: This is not just for laced fronts, so this is revolutionary?

Sumayya: Exactly.

24: What’s the name of that product again?

Sumayya: It’s called the ‘Let’s Get Laced: Miracle Soothing Cream.’

24: Are there any other products you haven’t mentioned that you would like to push?

Sumayya: I must tell you about another new product in the works. We are going to be launching Armenian hair.

24: Now when you say Armenian, I immediately think of Kim Kardashian ?

Sumayya: Absolutely, now we know that she has the most beautiful hair, so we’re going to be working to get Armenian hair into the hands of our consumers. So that’s a big step for us. And we plan to launch that in the beginning of October.

24: If they wanted to purchase the hair, would they go to the website or would they have to go to the store?

Sumayya: They can do both or they can contact me via email at Sumayya@LetsGetLaced.com

24: So there you have it, you have the ‘Miracle Smoothing Cream’ and the Armenian hair, now is it true you have another hair show coming up in Ohio?

Sumayya: Yes, yes I do. In Ohio, we’re going to be educating, teaching a Lace wig class, the business of lace wigs, meaning, we’re going to be telling people how to get into the lace wig industry. If you want to do lace wigs, we’re going to show you how.

24: Now onto the business side of ‘Let’s Get Laced,’ how long has your store in Miami been here?

Sumayya: We’ve been here in North Miami since July. We actually had a south Miami store but we got kicked out for having so much traffic, (laughs) I guess they got sick of us. We also had a private office in D.C as well, my sister and cousin did lace wigs there.

24: Let’s say we have customers looking at the site saying they want a human hair lace wig and they want you to do it, how can they get to you?

Sumayya: Well the Let’s Get Laced store in North Miami is 12743 Biscayne blvd. We also have a web site: www.letsgetlaced.com

24: Can the order your wigs on your web site?

Sumayya: Yes as well as get information about them… what they’re made of, different styles, & colors. Anything you need to know, you can find out on the web site.

24: What do you base your prices on?

Sumayya: The length mostly determines the prices but so do a lot of other factors like where they come from. There are so many different types like Brazilian, Chinese, & etc. Our prices come with installation.

24: What other ways can your customers contact you?

Sumayya: I have a twitter which is Twitter.com/LetsGetLaced and we have a Facebook too, which is under Facebook.com/SumayyaNewman.

24: Are you the original owner?

Sumayya: I’m the only owner. We do have other installers that work with us so when you come in you don’t have to see me, everyone can help you out. Like Tiffany, she’s our front office person who handles our accessories, shoes, & other stuff.

24: When will we see you in Forbes or Fortune magazine?

Sumayya: 2 years. Once we get that television show out there it’s all going to take off.

24: Anything else you want to add?

Sumayya: Come see us! We’ll take good care of you. Anything you need as far as a lace wig, we can provide. “Let’s Get Laced!”
