24: What made you want to be a producer?
Who inspired you?
Lil C: I would say Dr.Dre influenced me as far
as becoming a producer and also DJ Toomp. I grew up around music as a kid in church
and I just wanted to say around it the whole time.
24: Was the Young Jeezy Song you produced,
“My Hood” the track that opened the doors for you?
Lil C: Yeah, that was my first placement on
any album I was about 16 or 17.
24: How did you end up becoming a Grand
Hustle in house producer?
Lil C: I met Jason Geter (part owner of Grand
Hustle) he respected what I was doing and we got together with T.I. and made
it official.
24: What do you feel you bring to the
table as a producer, why does everyone want to work with Lil C?
Lil C: A different sound for the youngster’s.
I think it’s a lot of talented new producers, writers, out here that no
one knows about. I myself know a gang of them. I feel like I’m bringing
the next new thing and so far with the track’s I have done I’ve
proved that.
24: How has the Music Industry treating
you after reaching #1 on the Billboard charts with “Shoulder Lean”?
Lil C: They’re treating me quite well
but at the same time I’m not where I want to be in the industry, I’m
still climbing.
24: Did you always think the song “Shoulder
Lean” was going to be so big?
Lil C: Yeah, I knew it was going to be a hit
from when I first did because all it needed was that sprinkle added and from
there it was over me and Jay (Jason Geter) sat in the studio and listened to
that song for hours and hours.
24: How did you feel not only getting
the first single & video with “Shoulder Lean” on Young Dro album
but also the second single “Rubber Band Banks”?
Lil C: I felt real proud and it made people
take more notice of my work ethic & talent and I’m going to try to
do the same thing on every album I can.
24: What was the first thing you bought
when you received your first nice size check?
Lil C: I think I was about 16 at the time.
I bought some clothes, a car, and my momma a house and brought my family to
Atlanta.
24: How do you approach making your beats?
Lil C: Just going into the lab and working
the MPC to death with them drum tracks. It only takes me about 20-30 minutes
to make a beat. I normally start with my drums but it all depends on how I’m
feeling because I might start with some strings or I might be in Miami and want
to play a little guitar.
24: Which do you prefer sampling or Keyboards,
Live Instruments, and Sound Modules?
Lil C: Keyboards and live instruments I love
to play live because I also play drums.
24: What do you feel is your best beat
you did to date?
Lil C: I would say “Shoulder Lean”
so far, but I’m not going to be able to say that this year I have a lot
of heat coming up so look out for that.
24: What new projects have you been working
on lately?
Lil C: I did some beats on the new T.I. album
T.I. vs. T.I.P., Big Kuntry album, Young Dro second album, E-40, U.S.D.A, Lil
Webbie, and I’m also trying to move into the pop world as well and go
to the next level.
24: Any last comments?
