PHARELL: STAR TRAK
24: Thanks for taking time out and allowing me to get this interview with you? Pharell: It's all good, plus I see you go on that BBC so we'll call it even (lol). 24: I did not know you were going to be here either much less I was going to get to interview you but tell me what you have been up to as far your solo project is concerned? Pharell: That's a question I didn't think you would get straight to but yeah man, I'm always in the studio whether it's me working with an artist my solo project to working on my newest group called CRS with some people you might have heard of like Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco, we starting a group together. 24: I remember hearing a song with all of you guys on Kanye mixtape "Cant Tell Me Nothing"? Pharell: Yeah, "Us Placers." We leaked it there first and we're getting a great response, we're getting the ideas and concepts together at this point. I think the music world needs something like this because we push the envelope already as solo acts so image combining the three. 24: I think so too and judging by "Us Placers" I can tell everyone should expect the unexpected from what's going on now? Pharell: its a few people pushing the envelope like Timbaland and Danja Handz, Kanye and Lupe of course and The Neptunes. We were built off of trying new things. 24: Is Timbaland someone who really influenced you coming up? Pharell: Timbaland and me was in group coming up and he is one of the biggest and coming up from Virgina, its great to see what he has brought to the world of music as well as Teddy Riley. 24: You mentioned that on your first single with Gwen Stefani, the line about your first NSX? Pharell: That was a good time, can you imagine what that was like pulling up in that back then…felt like a damn rock star. 24: What's up with Chad? Pharell: Chad is cool. He's got a family and everything but he was here earlier. The Neptunes are working man. Chad just doesn't care for the lime light at all 0%. 24: The Clipse have a new deal with Columbia, can you talk about that? Pharell: To be real, Columbia offered them a great deal they get to keep their masters for their own label RE-Up Ganng Records and plus solo projects which they could not do at Jive. That deal was a blessing and I am happy for them. They will always be Star Trak family for life. 24: Were you bothered by the comments Lil Wayne said about you and the Clipse? Pharell: Not at all because it never made sense to me. Everyone knows who The Neptunes are. We came into the game and made a name for ourselves. I respect Lil Wayne's work ethic and music but at the same time I think he goes to far when he has not yet made history. Jay-Z had rap on lock for not just 1 year and The Neptunes did the same and we are still here still on the charts today. 24: Well said, I know you have to get back in the studio but do you have any thing you want to tell our readers? Pharell: 2008 be on the look out for that Clipse new album, CRS with me Lupe & Kanye, The Neptunes, Fam-Lay, Natasha Ramous and the BBC/Ice Cram winter line is out now also we just opened a Flagship store in New York but you can shop online too at www.bcc.com, Yes Sir!
