Akon Not Sticking To The Script
 There has been an investigation this past week by The Smoking Gun on the realities of hit maker Akon’s criminal background. As pointed out in the last editorial published here (Stick To The Script Pt.1) many rappers make claims to having an illustrious criminal background and Akon is no different. He built his early career with the song “Locked Up” which of course dealt with the obvious subject of prison confinement. His music label is named Konvict Muzik and he has claimed to have a heavy record. Akon said he was so influenced by the prison system in his music and its name bearing because he himself had spent many years in prison, with the longest stretch being three years. The story goes he ran a car theft ring that was busted and he was facing 75 years and was being held without bail during the entire trial proceedings for a total of three years. However now things are coming up that says this is just not the case. Akon has only been convicted for a grand total of…1 felony. That was for possession of a gun. After that he was arrested for being in a stolen car, this is the arrest that Akon always points out in interviews that he went to prison for three years for. He was pulled over, without incident, after the plates on the BMW he was driving registered as stolen. He was taken into custody and he was held for 4 months before the case was eventually dropped in April of 1999. Let Akon tell it though and it was a whole different story. In an interview with Rolling Stone Akon spoke on the arrest. "That's the slowest car in the whole fleet (the BMW he was driving)...I'd been in high-speed pursuits before and always got away, but this time I didn't because the car was too slow. I didn't even want that car, it was a favor to someone else. And I wound up getting locked up for three years." The arresting officers and prosecutors on the case have both come forward and essentially said Akon’s story is funny style. Peter Mcfarlane, the prosecutor had this to say, "Ah, this is bullshit. This guy is so phony. He's an arrogant SOB," said McFarlane. The arresting officer, Daniel Brewer, had some words as well when it came to Akon’s supposed kingpin status, "I don't think he had any role besides [wanting] to drive a high-dollar vehicle. And I say this because we didn't link him to any other cars." So there you have it. Something isn’t adding up here and someone’s got some explaining to do. Either way I fuck with Akon, he makes hits and that’s all I want from him. But rappers and R&B singers beware. You must always, always, STICK TO THE SCRIPT!
