All-Star Weekend Mishaps
THE N.O. GOT TOO HOT FOR THE HOT BOYS THIS ALL-STAR WEEKEND The long awaited reunion of the legendary group The Hot Boys ( Lil Wayne, Turk, B.G., Juvenile, Mannie Fresh) was a bust this All-Star Weekend after three people were shot outside the club just minutes before the doors were opened. The event was supposed to be happening at Club Dream in New Orleans and be attended by some of the hottest names in hip hop i.e., Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Yung Joc. Though none of the shots were fatal, two women and one man were hit. They were rushed to the hospital and fixed up good and quick enough to still make the afterparty (just kidding). As in most cases involving violence amongst young black people there are no suspects and little to no headway has been made since the incident. So no Hot Boys reunion yet my lil' woadies but we should stay optimistic as Lil' Wayne says it is still a very real possibility, "It's just a phone call away." Let's hope the call is made and next time the violence can at least wait till' after the show. TANK GETS A BUZZ This past NBA All Star Weekend drew plenty
of big names from the hip hop music world and so naturally some rights had to
be violated. It seems the worst recipient of the New Orlean's police department
hospitality was R&B singer Tank.
Apparently after defending a woman who was being verbally abused by the
police, Tank was tasered and taken into custody. Read the eyewitness account
below by Ozone Mag's own Julia Beverly: "The singer Tank got tasered & arrested at house of blues early Monday morning in New Orleans...claiming police brutality. I have pics of him in handcuffs. He actually requested that I send out the pics because he wants the situation exposed and is willing to speak on it. Apparently he was with a woman who was being harassed by police outside the venue and when he told them to stop, he was tasered and taken into custody. The woman's (eyewitness) blackberry contact is iradewitt@yahoo.com and she wants to speak on it also. Several police officers were actually overheard making sexual comments about the woman after Tank was in custody (repeated to me by a very reliable source). Not surprising but still shameful. As of press time it is not reported Tank will be seeking any kind of administrative action or consequences for the officers.
