Biggie Movie Finds It's Star
The long awaited movie on the life and death of The Notorious B.I.G. is now ready to begin shooting as the part for the biggest role of the movie, Biggie himself has been casted. Brooklyn rapper and Warner Brothers artist Gravy will play B.I.G. in the movie titled "Notorious". Casting for the part has been going on for over two years although Gravy (real name Jamal Woolard) was a front runner from the beginning. Gravy although having the biggest role in the film is also joined by much brighter stars in the movie. Angela Bassett will be playing Biggie's mother, Voletta Wallace, while Derek Luke will be playing Mr. Take That, a.k.a. Puff Daddy. The movie will detail the great one’s rise from being a drug dealer on the Brooklyn streets to his rise in the music game and of course his tragic murder in Los Angeles. The 2Pac beef will also be explored in the film with Anthony Mackie playing Shakur's part. The film’s director said the decision to cast Gravy in the role relied on a number of factors. First of all, Biggie was a rapper so they needed someone that could naturally rap and Gravy could do that as he is an already established rapper. Also, Gravy met the size requirements for the role and Big’s mother, Voletta, said he just seemed to give the lines that personal touch they were looking for. "Jamal's charming personality, warm spirit, wonderful sense of humor and beautiful smile", she cited all as reasons for the casting. "He is a talented and charismatic actor, and I am excited that he will bring Christopher's character to life," she said. Me personally
I am just excited they are making a movie on B.I.G.! I know there are a
whole generation of finger snappers and two steppers who listen to hip
hop now but have no idea of the impact of Biggie and how well he did
this rap thing. Hopefully this will school all the youngn’s and let them
know what real hip hop is all about. Also, a major studio like Fox
is willing to invest in a movie about a dead black rapper is very
surprising as well. In the words of one of Big's greatest records,
"It's Unbelievable!"
