DJ AFFECT: SMITTY'S OFFICIAL DJ
305DJ’s: What made you want to be a DJ? DJ Affect: I was inspired by the movie Juice. I felt like it was something I wanted to do and started messing with it. Everything just fell into place after that. 305DJ’s: How long have you been a DJ? DJ Affect: Professionally about 9 years. 305DJ’s: How was it as a new DJ starting out trying to play club’s? DJ Affect: I learned from an early age and that helped me out watching the whole scene. It was all about your hustle and your grind so I studied that. I studied the art of grind then the actual spinning. After I got on I studied my skills as a DJ, like mixing and scratching. 305DJ’s: What’s a day like for you when preparing for a big show? DJ Affect: It’s like a regular day man, that’s the best way to do it. A clear mind and go about it as a normal day cause the more you think about it the more you get nervous. 305DJ’s: What’s your Affiliation with Smitty? DJ Affect: I’m his official DJ but as of right now I’ve been doing clubs, 6 to 7 days per week. A lot of out-of-town gig’s. I’m down with Czar Entertainment and J Records. 305DJ's: What’s the do’s and don’ts for people trying to give their CD to you in the club? DJ Affect: Just don’t come up to me like you’re the hottest thing in the world. It’s not even about trying to put no money in my hand. I make money as a DJ so I don’t need somebody coming up to me with $20.00 to play a record. If you humble and show love, I’ll play it all day, I like hot music I’m not gonna play wack music for money, that’s just my bottom line. I’m not trying to be like every other DJ taking money and making wack artists hot cause that’s what’s happening in the music industry right now. 305DJ’s: With DJ’s like DJ Drama and DJ Khaled making album’s do you see yourself heading towards that direction? DJ Affect: Yeah definitely. I got something in the works now plus I’m heavy on the production too but that’s definitely in the works for the near future. 305DJ’s: Being around music 24/7 any plan’s on starting your own label? DJ Affect: Definitely a production company, as far as the label goes, not til I have millions in the bank. I’m not even going to consider it because I don’t want to be like everybody else. There’s so many people that got labels that when someone comes up to you, and says they have a label, you don’t even take them serious no more. I’m trying to start a production company and later get a deal with a bigger label like a Roc-A-Fella. 305DJ"s: What’s the reaction from the crowd when you play Rick Ross "Hustlin"? DJ Affect: To me, that’s the hottest record of the millennium. It’s even more special because it’s home team. That’s the man right now, he set it off with that one, plus that is what it is every day in this industry you find yourself "Hustlin". 305DJ’s: What’s some must have record’s you go to play in your mix? DJ Affect: Rick Ross "Hustlin’, Smitty "Lil’ Haiti" A record that’s a big record right now is T.I.’s "What You Know", Dre’s "Chevy Ridin High" ,Yung Joc ‘s "It’s Going Down", that song is tremendous. 305DJ’s: How do you feel about the Movement in Miami and why did it take so long? DJ Affect: I don’t feel it took long, its just been a working process. A lot of wrong labels were getting signed and we actually got killer talent in Miami not shinning. 305DJ’s: Being around music and knowing what a hit record should sound like, what would you say is the formula? DJ Affect: The beat and a good hook, the verse to fill in the blanks but if you got a good beat and hook you’ll win. 305DJ’s: Would you try to break a record from a new and not so popular artists? DJ Affect: Yeah definitely. When Smitty came out with "Diamonds On My Neck" I didn’t even know him. When I first heard the record I was playing that shit like it was the hottest debut in the world. So yes, I definitely believe in breaking records. 305DJ’s: Any last words?
