Monday Night, March 12, 2007, a grand night for the infamous crew Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. This was the night they were honored as being the first Hip-Hop Icons to ever be inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. This is a great achievement and most definitely a well deserved honor to be apart of American music history.

The legendary Grandmaster Flash was an original pioneer in the Hip-Hop movement. He mastered the art of DJing, cutting, and mixing during the late 1970’s in the Bronx, New York. Learning from the likes of Pete Jones and DJ Kool Herc. The original three members before the famous five to grace the world was undoubtedly Melle Mel, Kidd Creole, and Cowboy. Mel was even the first artist to call himself a real MC, while Cowboy is said to have coined the term “Hip-Hop.” Later on, while signed to Sugar Hill Records they became the legendary Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five with the final two crew members as Rahiem and Scorpio. From then on, they’ve all become household names and went on to release numerous amounts of records and hits. It is with such great honor they are recognized as Icons and Pioneers that opened the gateway for young talented DJ’s and MC’s that we see today.

The awards ceremony, held at the Waldorf-Astoria, aired on VH1 and broadcasted via the web on AOL on Saturday Night, March 17, 2007. A prestigious night that hosted to many Rock ‘n’ Roll artists, fanatics, and industry execs. Alongside Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, inductees in attendance were famous Rock group, R.E.M., the ever so popular the Ronettes, rock legends Van Halen, and the punk-rocker Patti Smith. That night, was a night to remember, Jay-Z, CEO of Def Jam Music Group, presented the award to Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. He opened his speech with quoting the hook “don’t push me cause I’m close to the edge. We’re tryin’ not to lose our head.” The whole crowd repeated and followed alongside Jay-Z as he began his speech, reading from his digital GPS, stating that it was “The shot heard ‘round the world was fired from the South Bronx.” 24hourhiphop .com extends our congratulations to Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five for being the first Hip-Hop Icons ever to be inducted into the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame. Hip-Hop Lives!
