Kanye West Inspiring The Law

There is a new legislation being pushed by Assembly woman Wilmer Amina Carter, tentatively titled the ‘Donda West Law’. It’s inspired by the death of superstar Kanye West’s mother following a cosmetic surgery procedure late last year. The law, obviously aimed at preventing future deaths from plastic surgeries, would require patients to receive clearance from a licensed doctor before having elective plastic surgery therefore ensuring that the patient would be able to endure the side affects of anesthesia (which was credited for Dr. West’s tragic death). 

Assembly woman Carter said she was mainly inspired to push this law after seeing Kanye’s gripping performance of “Hey Mama” at this year’s Grammy Awards. "I was so touched by that," Carter said. "So I am going to work very hard to make this happen." Carter also wants to point out that the intention of this bill is not to give cosmetic surgeons a bad name but just to regulate the practice and make sure all the precautions are being met. "

Most people who do cosmetic surgery are certified and do a good job, and they do require patients to have physicals," said Carter on Friday. " But some do not, and as we have seen, it can cause problems, and that's why we want to make this a requirement across the state.” It is not clear yet when or even if indeed the bill will come into action. Unfortunately the spokeswoman for the California Medical Association, Karen Nikos, didn’t offer too much insight as she said "We are still reviewing it, and that's very common at this point. We support efforts that increase patients' safety but we haven't thoroughly analyzed that bill and have not taken a position on it."

Let’s hope this goes through so as more tragedies can be prevented. Kanye West himself could not be contacted for this story but a source close to him said he is “excited and ecstatic” about the proposal of the bill going through.
