The sale will feature a 50% interest in "U Can't Touch This," the Rick James-sampled hit that reached the top of Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart in TK. The sale also includes a 90% interest in "2 Legit 2 Quit," which rose to #5 on Billboard's Hot 100.

Calabasas, California-based Wixen Music Publishing became the court-appointed administrator for the publishing assets of five Hammer companies after the 1996 bankruptcy filing. According to Randall Wixen, the sale was postponed partly due to litigation with EMI Music Publishing, EMI Records and others. The claims have now been resolved.

Lastly, the bankruptcy trustee is looking for 33 songwriters who had agreements with Hammer's publishing companies. Word is they risk losing their royalties if they don't contact attorney Terrance Stinnett of Goldberg, Stinnett, Meyers & Davis in San Francisco by December 31st. Past that date, the royalties will be paid to the state of California as unclaimed property.
