New Release Tuesday: Webbie, Shawty Lo & More
Webbie "Savage Life 2"- Trill Entertainment/Asylum Webbie is back with more savage tales on the aptly titled "Savage Life 2". This album picks up right where the last one left off according to Webbie. "Savage Life 2 is the same ole thing," he said. "I got a lot to talk about. I'm still living that same life. Y'all still see me in the clubs." One aspect he says did change on this record is how he approaches the ladies. "Some people got the wrong idea on 'Give Me That,' " he said. "I was 18, 19 at the time. I was partying. To this day, I go to clubs every night. All my fans love 'Gimme that pu---' — the women who respect themselves, bad chicks, independent women. 'Give Me That' is a party song." This time around he saluted the independent chicks with his hit "Independent" Of the song Webbie says "I did 'Independent' for everybody, for my little daughters to my aunts to your mama, everybody." The album also has features by Rick Ross, Birdman, Young Dro, and the ever capable Bun B. Shawty Lo "Unit's In The City" - D4L Reocrds/Asylum Dey Know Dey know! If you've been breathing at all in the past months it's very likely you've been singing along to this hit in ewither the club or the whip. You even do the running man dance too don't lie. Well bringing you more of that feel good vibe is Shawty Lo with his debut album "Unit's In The City". The D4L member brings that "slow flow" as he calls it to the album giving a bouncy ride throughout his city of Atlanta. He says he got the title of the album because like many southern artists these days he got his start moving records hand to hand and when they started moving he coined it "moving units in the city" The album features production by Shawty Redd and has guest appearances by other up and comers from the A like Yola, and Gucci Mane. Janet Jackson "Discipline" - Island Def Jam Returning from her hiatus Janet Jackson is back with "Discipline". The dominatrix look on the album artwork gives the impression that this is going to be a racy album filled with seductive songs we have come to know Janet for. Instead the singer says the album is an introspective look into her life, both personal and professional. "Like all my records, this one, whether intentional or not, has autobiographical roots. It's difficult for me to work any other way. I don't feel it, if I don't believe it, I can't sing it," Janet says of her new album's content. Janet worked with several well known producers and some new blood including Rodney Jerkins, Ne-Yo, The Dream and her long time boyfreind Jermaine Dupri. On this record Janet tries to go into new territory as she says "I wanted to announce that I was venturing into new creative waters." Knowing Janet I'm sure those waters will run deep. Joe Budden -"Mood Muzik 3" A rework of the third installment of his highly acclamied Mood Muzik Series, MM3 is another journey into the tortured mind and soul that is Joe Budden. Initially climbing to fame with his hit "Pump it Up" Joey has been in rap purgatory the last 4 years as his label refused to release an album from him. In response he released these independent albums and the third one is now seeing a proper release. If you like happy rap or feel good music this is not for you. Mood Muzik is exactly that, moody. Joey fills the disc with what it's like to be a talented and in demand rapper that is on a label that doesn't believe in his music at all. The beats are just like the lyrics, dark and foreboding. There are a few notable guests on the record, mainly Joell Ortiz and Fabolous, but the main focus is on Joey and his painful struggles. Delving into issues most rappers would be scared to touch, like his own fears of failure and family problems Joe Budden reminds us what hip hop can be to some. Therapy. Joe uses his music to get out what's killing him inside and at the same time keeps hope alive for real lyric driven hip hop fans. Are you in that mood yet?
