New York Giants ends New
England Patriots reign at Super Bowl XLII Glendale, AZ – The University
of Phoenix hosted the 42nd annual edition of the Super Bowl
series with the Patriots looking to continue their undefeated reign
against a Giants team willing to stop at nothing to end their flawless
season. These two teams have a heated rivalry toward each other that
began weeks into the last game of the year. Entering Super Bowl XLII,
team players already have mixed emotions towards one another. With the
New England Patriots determined to break the 1972 Miami Dolphins
unbeatable season, at 16-0, the New York Giants were the last
team in their way. Within the first half, the
aggressiveness between both teams, were portrayed, they exerted excellent
deep coverage amongst one another, it was evident that they both came
prepared to do battle. Scores were kept low as defense on both sides
did their job with intense force. They pulled no stops, Tom Brady
and Eli Manning had their work cut out for them as linebackers
and defensive tackles were gunning for them with no intent of letting
up. The second half showed the Giants true colors as they took the field
by storm, Eli Manning executed two touchdown passes successfully and
led his team into history by winning Super Bowl XLII 17 to 14. David
Tyree scored the first touchdown early into the opening of the fourth
quarter, while Plaxico Burress caught the winning touchdown in
the final minutes that put the Giants into the lead. In the last seconds
of the game, Tom Brady and his Patriots could not withstand the unstoppable
force of Michael Strahan and his Giants defensive team. The underdog
becomes the victor. The much doubted New York Giants stuns the world
by ending the New England Patriots perfect season. The 1972 Miami Dolphins
are still the record holding perfect season champions. Major congratulations to the underdogs New York Giants, they were definitely doubted and hated on from the start. As they took the field, they showed the world as they took the Championship from right under the Patriots . Now both Eli and Peyton have Super Bowl championships under their belts one year after the next. If anything, the Manning family is unstoppable. I know the Miami Dolphins franchise is glad of the fact that they still hold the record. As a dolphins fan, I know I’m relieved and next year, we’re renewing that title, you can bet that.
