Jay-Z Pays Tribute to King of Pop

Uncasville, Connecticut – The icon, Jay-Z, recently gave an incredible show at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut this past Friday night alongside other performers, Lupe Fiasco and Fabolous. R&B vixen Ciara, who was scheduled to be at the venue, cancelled due to an unspecified reason, nevertheless, the crowd got a chance to see Jay, Lupe, and Mr. Loso put on a full show with all the trimmings.

It seems as though Jay must still be feeling the effects of the sudden loss of Michael, as throughout most of the show, he paid homage to the late great King of Pop. Throughout his sets, hints of Jackson and Jackson 5 songs could be heard through his music as he made his tribute clear. During the intro of ‘Roc Boys,’ a guitar riff of the Jackson 5 hit ‘I Want You Back’ pummeled through the speakers as pictures of Michael appeared on the screen behind him.

Hov even made comments to the crowd about the life of a legend:

"Let's not wait to mourn death, let's celebrate life. I need y'all tonight. Let's celebrate life."

Jay finished off the set with his chart topping singles that included: ‘Swagga Like Us,’ ‘Jigga My Nigga,’ ‘Nigga What, Nigga Who,’ ‘Big Pimpin',’ ‘Can I Get A ...’ and ‘Dirt Off Your Shoulder.’ As soon as the last song faded out, Jay told the crowd ‘Peace and Love’ as the stage went pitch black. The crowd commenced in chanting ‘Hova, Hova’ filling the entire arena. It was then obvious that the show was not over.

Jay reappeared on stage to his screaming fans and continued with the show going into a lyrical segment at the same time trying to stray away from saying anything about The Game:

"We talkin' about real shit or we talkin' about rhymes? Y'all talkin' about millions or y'all just talkin' about mines? I ain't talkin' about Game, I ain't talkin' about Jimmy/ I ain't talkin' about Dame/ I'm talkin' about real shit, them people playin'/ What is you talkin' about? I don't know what y'all sayin'? ... Ain't nothin' cool about carryin' a strap, about worryin' your moms and buryin' your best cat/ Talkin' about revenge….. Talkin' about revenge/ While you carryin' his casket/ All teary-eyed about to take it to a mattress ... People keep talkin' about how Hov left 'em flat/ Trying to rewrite history, let's talk about facts/ Dame made millions, even Jaz made some scraps/ He could've made more, but he ain't sign his contract/ And as far as street guys, I mean, we was dealin' crack/That's how the game goes, I don't owe nobody jack/ Grown men want me to sit 'em on my lap/ But I don't have a beard and Santa Claus ain't black."

The statement was clear, Jay wasn’t playing. He then continued on performing a couple of more songs before mentioning Michael again in his hit single ‘Give It To Me’ saying "Ladies love me long time like M.J.'s soul."

Hov’s last song for the evening before hitting the tables in the casino was respectively Encore off of ‘The Black Album.’

And without a doubt, it must have been a sold out show. Between Jay, Lupe, and Fab, talk about a list of heavyweight artists that is sure to rock a show. His tribute to Michael just goes to show that everyone was affected by his sudden tragic passing. It was commendable and respectable.

Bruno Tells Story of Eminem Encounter at MTV Movie Awards

New York, NY – Is it just me or is Sacha Baron Cohen taking this character a bit too far? I can understand viral marketing and working the gimmick, but like Borat, he takes all his characters to the next level. Either way, I can’t hate on the fact that he is a good writer.

The lead star of the mock documentary that was released this past Friday, Bruno, recently spoke with MTV News during a special MySpace screening of the movie and left some crude comments when questioned about the Eminem incident at the MTV Movie Awards. Bruno gave his rendition of the situation from the character’s point of view. Now we all should be aware of the ridiculous incident that took place during the MTV Movie Awards that involved both Shady and Bruno. An incident that Eminem states was staged by both him and Sacha. Now if it was staged, Em and D12 gave a speculator performance with screaming many obscenities as they all stormed out of the arena.

These were his comments:

"Well, Eminem behaved like a total bitch. I mean, he pretended like he'd never 69'd a guy before. The reality was, when I was down there with my [butt] in his face and my head between his thighs, I felt something poking into my cheek, and I felt why he was actually called Slim Shady. I felt that Slim was getting a little fat."

Days after the incident took place at the show; Eminem spoke on it after being questioned during an interview and admitted that it was all staged and that he was asked to do the segment:

"Sacha [Baron Cohen] called me when we were in Europe, and he had an idea to do something outrageous at the Movie Awards. I'm a big fan of his work, so I agreed to get involved with the gag; I'm thrilled that we pulled this off better than we rehearsed it. It had so many people going 'nuts,' so to speak. Everyone was blowing me up about it. I went back to my hotel and laughed uncontrollably for about three hours, especially after I saw it on-air."

Bruno was released last Friday (July 10) by Universal and has already been receiving mixed reviews.

On the real, Bruno is quite an eccentric character. After Borat and its disgusting scenes he decided to include into the movie, I didn’t think he would return with another mock documentary. Different media outlets have expressed mixed reviews about his latest movie and Rotten Tomatoes has already given it a fresh rating. I bet Eminem already saw the film. He must be good friends with Sacha, because that whole incident at the MTV Movie Awards was just utterly crazy.

R. Kelly Discusses Mixtape with DJ Drama

New York, NY – For as long as Kells has been in the game, the R&B superstar has never released a mixtape, but then again he has been known to release of amazing things. R. Kelly’s music has entertained audiences for years and any new material he releases has always gotten that mega attention. In 2009, we embarked on his first attempt at releasing a mixtape with DJ Drama and DJ Skee with some real interesting material.

Kels recently spoke to MTV News about the reasoning behind the mixtape drop. These were his comments:

"I been in the stands watching the music scene for a minute, just chillin.' I said, 'If I'm gonna do a mixtape, I feel like I'm starting over in a way.' I said, 'I'm gonna act like this is my first time as an artist. I'mma do a demo and hope the world sign me.'"

He even went in and talked about his guest features on the remix to ‘Every Girl’ by Young Money and ‘Birthday Sex’ by Jeremih:

"Every Girl" remix. "First of all, I did Lil Wayne, Young Money 'Every Girl.' When I heard that track, I was like, 'Ah, man, this is what I'm up against when I come back out? I gotta conquer this first. I gotta conquer this before I put out my album.' This is like my homework before I can go out and play. So when I heard 'Every Girl,' I'mma keep it real just like them: When I heard the verses and the hooks, I was like, 'This is so crazy.' I wanted to put my two cents in."

"Birthday Sex" remix. "It felt like something Kells not only should do, but it felt like something Kells already done. Not saying that my man stole [from] me or anything; he did his damn thing on it. I actually loved his version more than I did mine. But everybody is like, 'Yeah, man, I like your version, what you put down on that.' But I actually love his version more than mine. I just wanted to be a part of that song, because everybody was asking me, 'Did you do this song for him?' I hadn't heard it. Then when I heard it, I was like, 'Oh, man, no wonder they're asking. This sounds like something Kells should get on.' I had to go for mine."

It has been two years since the release of his last studio album ‘Double Up’ and while sources claim that he has been in the studio working on his latest LP, Kells has apparently recorded several tracks that will or will not make the album cut to an untitled album due to be released sometime towards the end of this year.
