Review: Keyshia Cole Concert in New York; J Holiday A Star
Last night was a night to remember in New York City and a breathe of fresh air for R&B at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square where a “sold out” Keyshia Cole concert took place. Plus with newly R&B sensation’s Ray Lavender of Konvict Records and J Holiday of Capitol Records the lines were wrapped around the block from 44th street to the middle of 45th street on a rainy Sunday night, but the show was well worth the wait! Heating things up first was Ray Lavender, an artist who Akon recently signed, performing songs like “Donkey Kong”, “Bad Chic” and his lead single “Girl Gotta Girlfriend” which he was helped by New York’s up and coming rapper Red Café (who recently signed to Konvict Music as well). Some might say you should save the best for last, but in J Holiday, they placed it right before! Starting things up with “Be With Me” and a few other tracks off his debut album, which was the perfect selection and quite before the storm of his smash single “Bed”. During that performance it seemed as if the ladies could not get enough and actually wanted Holiday to put them to bed if possible. Not to be outdone, Keyshia Cole put on a show that surpassed my expectations with a tribute to her idol Mary J. Blidge performing “I’m Going Down” to bringing the house during “Love” to name a few. Then just when everyone thought the show was just about to be over, Ms.Cole performed “Last Night” from P.Diddy’s Press Play album and her new single where Missy Elliot surprised everyone coming in during the second chorus and not during her first verse and just when you thought that was hot, Lil Kim ran on stage and did her 16 bars along with everyone in the building! Overall this was a very exciting show and I heavily suggest to check it out when it comes to a city near you.
