In a shocking turn of events, Grammy Award winning rapper T.I. has just been given nearly two extra months of freedom before he turns himself in for his 366 day jail sentence. T.I. recently appeared in court on Friday, March 27, 2009 for his sentencing where he would be charged for his March 2007 incident involving his attempt to purchase unregistered machine guns and silencers.  T.I. has already completed approximately 1,000 hours of community service with his reality TV show, “Road to Redemption”, which features his warning to trouble youth about the reality of drugs, guns, and violence, and the negative consequences and effects that they can have. The rapper must now complete 470 additional hours and will report to prison by May.

Harris, who once faced a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count he was charged with, will now do a year and a day. Once released from prison, he will receive three years of supervised released and given 60 additional days of home detention credited from the 305 that he has already served.

According to the Associated Press “A judge sentenced him to one year and a day behind bars on federal weapons charges today. The 28-year-old rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris , apologized at the hearing. "Today I would like to say thank you to some, and apologize to all," the rapper told U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr. at sentencing. "Everything I learned was through trial and error. I've learned lessons in my life to put in my music so people won't make the same mistakes as I."

Well, even with the jail sentence approaching, it seems as if things are turning in a more positive direction. Two more months to hug, kiss, hold, and love your family, I’m sure T.I. is definitely grateful and loving that. Hopefully he spends his last few moments wisely and will have a lot of time to do some extra soul searching in prison. Good luck to you T.I.
