FLO RIDA
24: How long have you been rapping?
Flo Rida: I’ve been rapping for about 8 years
now. 8 years for the fact that I can hold my own, but for the most part, I’ve
always been listening to Scarface, Poison Clan, NWA, everything like that. All
together with that, about 12 years.
24: What made you want to rap?
Flo Rida: It’s the glamour. At the same time,
I’ve always been talented. Not just music, but I’ve been creative
with everything that I do. I just took it upon myself one day and looked at
a television and said “Damn, I like what I see on T.V.” I said I’m
just going to give it a try. One day up in Vero Beach, I was just chillin with
my cousins because I always used to go up there for the summer and he had this
little boom box and I saw that it had a record button on it. What we used to
do was get a magic mic and tapes and we would record over the instrumentals.
I kind of felt the vibe and people were liking my shit, so I just decided to
go from there. That’s where it started at.
24: Who were some of your influences?
Flo Rida: Like I said, Scarface, Poison Clan, people
may not like them, but as a visual I used to like the Fat Boys. 2Pac, Biggie.
Right now I like Ludacris, 50 Cent, definitely Outkast. They’re a big
influence on what I do. The list goes on.
24: Are you currently signed as an artist?
Flo Rida: Right now I’m doing my thing with
Poe Boy Entertainment. First, I was just working with Devonte of Jodeci out
there in Cali for like 3 years. Now I’m back down here chillin with my
boy Freezy. E Class, Big Chuck, we trying to do our thing right now. The Movement
is real serious right now. Rick Ross, one of my homeboys who let me know I was
tight, and just told me to keep going and everything will happen. So right now
I’m focused. I’m working with Poe Boy Entertainment.
24: What are you currently working on?
Flo Rida: Right now I’m working on the mixtape
with 305DJs. I got my boy Udonis Haslem hosting the CD. Big Chuck, always with
the quote “Making Millions and Millions of Dollars.” Working on
album material. I haven’t come up with a name yet for the name of my album.
Just give it about a week cause I’m pushing records like that everyday
in the studio.
24: What producers are you working with?
Flo Rida: As far as production, I don’t know
what’s going to make the album. Right now I got a lot of songs to choose
from. We’re just going to sit down and listen and see what we are going
to keep and what we’re going to delete from the album.
24: Are you originally from Miami?
Flo Rida: Yea I’m from Miami. Born and raised.
187 APTs. 37th Ave. Holding down Carol City.
24: Are there any artist that you haven’t
worked with that you would like to work with?
Flo Rida: Most definitely. I’m blessed to be
in the same camp with the likes of my nigga Brisco and Triple C’s. I’m
always around different artist all the time so I know that time will come for
me to work with a different artist. You feel me. If I want to work with them,
I know it will happen. I’ve done things prior to Poe Boy with different
people.
24: What are your goals as an artist?
Flo Rida: I want to take this music and use it as
a tool to help different people. It’s just like a billboard for whatever
you want to do. That’s how I see this music. With the money and everything
that comes from doing this, I want to be able to go to different hospitals and
throw charity events for different people and just give back to where I come
from regardless of if they did something for me because I’m just a giving
person.
24: Are you going to try to venture out outside
of music?
Flo Rida: I went to school but I didn’t graduate.
I went to school in Las Vegas at UNLV for International Business Management.
In the future I plan on doing real estate or owning my own business. I haven’t
really decided what business I want to run but I’m always reading Wall
Street Journal and what’s going on with stocks and all that. I will eventually
come up with a plan.
24: What are your plans for the rest of the year?
Flo Rida: For the rest of the year I’m going
to be here in the studio putting it down just trying to make hit records and
thank God for each day and taking day by day. I have goals and everything, but
I know God is a miracle worker and there’s no telling what tomorrow will
bring. So I’m just staying focused and taking it one day at a time.
24: How do you feel about the whole Miami Movement?
Flo Rida: I think it’s a great thing. There
has always been talented people down here in Miami, Dade County. Not to mention
Broward County as well, cause I got people I deal with. I’m feeling real
good. Everybody always looked to other artist outside of Miami and never really
focused on the artist here in Miami with the likes of Rick Ross, Trick Daddy,
Trina and different artist, we get the chance to have the eye on us.
24: Anything else you want to promote?
Flo Rida: I just want everybody to stay tuned for
the Groundhogs, that’s my group. And to this Poe Boy Movement, go cop
1,000 of those Rick Ross albums if you could. Stay tuned for Brisco, who got
next. 305DJs putting it down. Dade County stand up. The Movement, it’s
real serious.
