Rain
The Carolina movement is crucial; everything is built upon the momentum of reaching that commercial status. There are many talented artists both in North and South Carolina searching for their spot in the industry, patiently waiting for their time to finally shine. One such artist believes in trying to find that pivotal spot in the Hip-Hop world and is definitely grinding on an extreme level of making it to top, but first thing’s first, opening the eyes of someone, anyone to get their attention on him and the Carolinas. Rain is that such artist focused on pushing his limits beyond the skies. This is an exclusive interview with Rain of First in Flight Entertainment. 24: What’s good lately with the Rain of North Carolina? Rain: I’m working hard. I’m trying to get my label “First In Flight Ent” off the ground. I have 3 artists which are Traffic, Krillz and the first lady Allure. Other than that, I’m pushing my new mixtape “Highly Unanticipated” hosted by Don Cannon and the Aphilliates. I’m also pushing my “Time To Rain On Em” mixtape hosted by Late and Tricksta. 24: Can you describe the Carolina movement so that we may know what’s been going on? Rain: Well, Carolina is an untapped market. No one has officially come from here and did well. Even though there is a lot of talent here it’s like no one is checking for us. I’m trying to get all the DJs involved so they can support the home team. Hopefully I can open someone’s eyes so they can start paying some kind of attention. 24: Define the name Rain and its Origin. Rain: Rain stands for the new beginning. Nothing can grow without rain. I feel like the rap game is stuck in one place right now. I strongly believe I’m the one that can help it grow. I’m the new beginning. 24: Let’s delve into the history of Rain, his beginnings into the rap game, where did it all start? Rain: It started when I was young, maybe like 9 years old. My father got locked up and my mother was working two jobs trying to take care of us. I have a younger brother and an older sister. I had to hold us down when mom was working and pops was gone. I was going through a lot and I was forced to grow up fast. I didn’t know how to speak to people and voice what I was going through without keeping a strong persona. The music was a way for me to let it all out. 24: Is there a transition between your lyrical content from then to now? Rain: Yeah. I’m more educated. I’m able to speak on more issues, issues that I didn’t care about before. The older I get, the more I understand. I see certain things that I thought would never affect me: money, women, politics and friends. When you’re young, you don’t think any of that would bring drama to your life. I use all of that in my music. 24: Growing up, who were your major influences and what did you learn from them? Rain: My major influences were the gangstas and drug dealers from my city. I use to see them shinning and getting money, it motivated me. When I saw them old niggas fall off and start snitching it showed me what not to do. 24: What made you decide to get into the rap game? Rain: It was an outlet, a way to express my feelings. I always wanted people to hear me and say “Wow, homie is ill!!!” that keeps me going. I know I’m better than these guys that are in the game right now. The ones that I feel are good I want people to like me more than them.
Rain: I try to make people understand that their dreams are possible. It can come true. You just have to believe even when no one else does. I left everything in North Carolina and I moved to New York when I was 16 or 17. Everybody thought I was crazy. It’s been years and my dream still hasn’t happened yet, but I believe, I still believe. I try to get that across in my music. 24: I had a chance to listen to your mixtape, Highly UnAnticipated, what song do you think stands out the most, that people can relate to on a more inspirational level? Rain: My favorite is Beating Drum, it’s very personal. It explains how I feel right now. Highly UnAnticipated is an autobiographic tape. Every song is about my life. It speaks about different situations I’ve been in and different moods. I don’t care how anyone rates it. They can’t judge it because then they will be judging me. 24: Define the meaning behind the title Highly UnAnticipated in your own words. Rain: It means, not only is no one waiting on me, I’m the last one anyone will be waiting one. It means out of all the rappers in the game I’m the last one anyone wants to hear. When you been in my situations where no DJ will play your songs, no DVD magazine will film you, and no A&R wants to sign you, you really start to feel that way. Personally I think everyone is lost. Maybe one day I will have everyone ear, but as of right now it’s Highly UnAnticipated. 24: What producers did you work with on that mixtape? Rain: I worked with Ghost, Street Fabulous, Vinny Idol, and Don Cannon, all new hot talent. 24: What exactly sets you aside from any other rappers trying to get into the game, what can you bring to the table that totally different from what we see today? Rain: I’m just being creative. I don’t care what is going on, I’m doing me. I’m not following any trends and I’m keeping everything honest. I’m young, I have a new sound and I’m from North Carolina. The Gs respect me and the ladies love me. I’m so ready!!! 24: What other projects do you have in the works? Rain: I’m working on my album. It’s called “First Impression.” I’m working with producers such as Nottz, Rockwilder, DJ Don Cannon, and hopefully I can get a joint from SwizzBeatz, and DJ Premier. My album is going to be a classic. I’m also working on the First In Flight mixtape, look out for that. 24: When can we expect a debut album to grace the nation? Rain: Hopefully, second quarter of next year. That’s my prediction. If it takes longer it’s all a part of God’s plan. 24: Thank you for vibing with 24hourhiphop.com, do have any last words you would like to leave the fans? Rain: I want to thank you for letting me do this interview with you. I appreciate the love. To all my fans or people that check what I’m doing so they can hate. Hit me up on my myspace page. http://myspace.com/rain910 Thanks for all the support and please look out for Allure, Krillz and Traffic. First in Flight Ent. “Teamwork makes the Dream Work!!!!”
