Wiz Khalifa
24: I'm feeling your latest song "Youngin On His Grind" so lets talk about that grind because most up coming artist really think its easy getting into this industry and becoming successful? Wiz Khalifa: Well that song was for everyone that's on the grind trying to make something out of nothing basically. And for me it’s the whole being a new artist and the struggles I go through day to day and helping the whole of Pittsburgh because there has not been an artist to come out from their as well as me being 20 years old. Making sure I’m in the studio meeting new people and networking doing some things for free and not getting paid to not getting into clubs because a lot of people don’t know exactly who I am, so that's what the whole "Youngin On His Grind" was about. 24: How did you and your label Rostrum Records end up getting the attention of Warner Bros. Records? Wiz Khalifa: Well basically we just did our thing independently and through the buzz we created independently, which was more of an industry buzz because that’s the route we decided to go in and as we started to get a lot of press and attention the Warner deal came along. 24: How did it feel basically putting your city of Pittsburgh on the map by getting signed and opening the doors for other artist to come through? Wiz Khalifa: Well the door didn't exactly open as yet but I'm trying to get it open, because like you said I'm still a new artist but it does feel real good to be able to bring some attention and buzz to my city and I feel like its our time!
Wiz Khalifa: Yeah, just because you get the positive attention and you also get the negative attention, and there is a lot of people who hate because they want to be in your position. I'm in the Burg everyday unless I have to do shows and go out of town so I hear everything that goes on but there’s more love then anything. But I got my hatters too. 24: Tell me and our readers a little about Pittsburgh aka Pistolvania because I am sure not too many people are familiar with your hood? Wiz Khalifa: My city is basically like any other hood you got your ups and your downs and it's real separated as far as hoods and who fucks with who because that's how its always been and that use to cause a lot of problem especially with the music because the support factor was not there just because you was from a different area. They gang bang out hear but its getting better because people are seeing that there’s more money in other things. 24: Let's go back to your song "Youngin On His Grind" tell me about the making of that song? Wiz Khalifa: Basically, I just heard the track which was produced by ID Labs and wrote the two verses and came back later and wrote the hook to it. I never thought that it would be the first single and it was just the way I was feeling at the time, but when we came back and listened to it we realized it was a crazy record. 24: What’s some of the things you have been working on lately? Wiz Khalifa: I been working on getting my shows better. I like to try to improve as much as I can so I have been working on that and my new mixtape "Prince Of The City 2" and the album along with Youngin On His Grind DVD. 24: Any last words? Wiz Khalifa: Stay on the look out for Wiz Khalifa and check me out on myspace www.myspace.com/wizkhalifa and cop the mixtapes and expect big things in the future!
