24: Where do you get you work ethic from because a lot of artist talk about grinding but if I look in a magazine, website, mixtape you’re their you can see the grind its not just talk? Skyzoo: My grind is from the hunger yo! I want to make it in this game more than anyone doing it right now. I know that I was put here to make timeless music so I cant stop until I’m in the position to do so. It’s the hunger and the love for the music. 24: Is it all you or do you have a support system with a street team, manager, etc? Skyzoo: It’s a team effort. I have a manager and a full team that stand by me 100% but I’m definitely a go-getter. I grind more than any other unsigned artist. I plan everything from the studio sessions to the mixtape, artwork to the photo shoots to the making sure I have good coverage on websites to the Internet leaks to pushing the singles, everything. 24: I think putting your mixtape "Corner Store Classic" up for free download was a smart move. What made you think of that? Skyzoo: It basically came from a variety of reasons. One being that Mick Boogie and Kay Slay both are not really trying to sell mixtapes anymore, as they are more so doing freebies. The download thing is the logical move because it can reach everyone all over the world with just one mouse click. You can reach so many more people through the free mixtapes now. Dudes are becoming celebrities through the net via YouTube and MySpace, so you have to take advantage of those opportunities. 24: When I listen to your mixtape "Corner Store Classic" it sounds like an album. Do you use the same process and energy you would as if it was an album because you even got the A List producers giving you beats? Skyzoo: It’s almost the same process. I know what beats I want to have for what projects because I want a certain sound for it to be cohesive. Sometimes I’ll get beats from people that I know off top I want for the mixtape, and sometimes I’ll know I want to save them for the album. It depends on the feel. But I definitely went with a lot of big name producers to give the tape a star studded impact. Big names usually equal big noise. But I love the up and coming producers too. So it all depends.
24: What separates you from any other artist? Skyzoo: Aside from the grind, it’s the authenticity and versatility of me as an artist. It’s me being the complete package. Being able to lock in the underground and rock the mainstream world simultaneously. From the music to the grind and work ethic to the image, it’s all in pocket. 24: Why do you think you have not been signed as yet because personally I think that label A&R’s must be deaf, dumb or crazy because you put in the leg work along with the music which is not something that I can say about the average artist signed or unsigned? Skyzoo: I think it’s only a matter of time. I really wanted to have the majority of my press run to be out when we really started deciding what label we wanted to run with because that just makes the deal even bigger. I’ve been in 7 issues of XXL, as well as Scratch, Spin, and The Source is up next, as well as sites like yours so the press is crazy on me. With that, as well as the buzz on the tape and the rest of what I’ve accomplished, I’ll be on your record store shelf any day now. 24: Just the other day I was thinking and thought that maybe G.O.O.D. Music would be a good label for you because of you and Kanye West’s passion for music might be a good match, so what label as of right now would be a dream come true? Skyzoo: I absolutely agree. It’s funny because I was thinking the same thing 2 weeks ago. I love what Kanye is doing musically and business wise as well. I think the two of us in the lab would be phenomenal. He’s a genius and I’m a genius on the rise so it’d be crazy. Hopefully you’re predicting the future. (Lol) 24: I know you always have something going on so what’s next for you? Skyzoo: Well as of now I’m going to continue to push this "Corner Store Classic" mixtape. It has so much life in it due to the caliber of music and the people involved in it. I could literally push this tape for months to come. Once I’m done with this one there will definitely be some other projects going on. Also Some more collaborations and of course I will always leak music on the net so just be on the lookout for that as well. 24: Any last words you want to say to the fans and readers? Skyzoo: I just want to say thanks to everyone who supports, everyone who bumps my music. Everyone who loves and everyone who hates, you all matter in one way or another. I do this for myself and for my fans, so ride with me and you’re good. And thanks to 24HourHipHop.com for the great interview as always. Get at me directly at WWW.MYSPACE.COM/SKYZOO.
