Movie: I Am Legend

Director: Francis Lawrence

Production: Warner Bros. Pictures

The film begins in the summer of 2012; Will Smith stars Robert Neville as the last man on earth. Based on the book by Richard Matheson, according to the film, three years earlier a man-made cancer vaccine mutated into a virus called Krippen. If contracted with the virus, the host will lose all stability of human behavior and concur rabies-like symptoms. The virus eradicated 90% of the mankind and left the earth in a post-apocalyptic state.  The film is set in a shattered and desolate New York City; landmarks of Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge are based in the film. During the day, roaming the empty city was safe and full of exploration, at night, creatures known as the Dark seekers would roam the land looking for food. As Robert Neville tries to find a cure for the Krippen Virus he is caught between that and basically adhering to the rules of Darwinism, “Survival of the Fittest.” While having reoccurring nightmares of the death of his wife and daughter, watching his dog die, the film is definitely very depressing.

On the real, watching Will Smith have full conversations with his dog and several mannequins in the film, you can’t help but wonder if he took pointers from Tom Hanks and his Volleyball Wilson in Castaway. Either way, I can honestly say the movie was a 3 out of a 5. I really didn’t want to give any spoilers, but watch the movie, you’ll enjoy it. Note: Pay real close attention to the billboards on the wall in desolate Times Square.
