Artist: The Dream

Album: Love Hate

Label: Def Jam

Starting out as a songwriter, The Dream penned two of the year’s biggest hits for Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and J Holiday’s “Bed.” With a resume like that it’s not surprising The Dream inked a solo deal with Def Jam and saved the best for last with is debut single “Shawty Is Da Shit.” On ‘Love Hate’ The Dream pays homage to Prince on songs like “Fast Cars” but keeps things going forward with “Nikki” and “She Needs My Love.” Dream also shows his various styles thanks to “Falsetto,” the second single from Love Hate as well as “Purple Kisses.” Other than that, Love Hate starts to sound the same and shows The Dream’s lack of lyrical content. Honorable mentions include “Livin’ A Lie” featuring Rihanna and “Playin Her Hair.”
