An email from a person claiming to work for Def
Jam claims that Jay Z and Def Jam are disappointed with
Rihanna's album sales and are looking to sign a new female act. We're
not sure what to make of this, but here's an excerpt from the email:
I'd like to be noted as anonymous but I work over at Def
Jam and closely with [Jay Z] and he recently had a huge falling out
with Rihanna over his decision to find "new talent."
[Def Jam] has already sent out emails and made phone calls to producers
and writers looking for a new female act to sign - to restart what
failed with Teairra Marie and Rihanna. Everyone over here is really
disappointed in Rihannas lackluster album sales. Considering that
umbrella has been number one for so long and received so much positive
feedback from radio, we thought it would should have done much better
than 160,000 first week.
[Def Jam] spent way more money on promoting her single and album than
[it's] getting in return. And this is the 3rd time its happened to us.
Rihanna's had 3 lackluster albums ... .but we kept holding on [to her]
because of third party sponsors like Cover Girl and Nike.
