Family is now mourning the loss of 7-year-old Aiyana Jones who was shot in the neck by Detroit police during a search for a murder suspect.

FOXNews is reporting that police officers along with Detroit’s Special Response Team set off a flash grenade upon entering a Detroit home early Sunday morning.

Officers entered the home with a warrant searching for a 34-year-old suspect wanted in connection with an earlier murder.

The lead officer’s gun supposedly went off after having some physical contact with a 46-year-old woman who they immediately encountered inside the front room.

Jones was killed by a single gunshot to the neck and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A & E cameras for the hit series “The First 48” had camera crews present at time of the incident but were not inside of the home.

An investigation is now underway.
