Even with little preparation for Michael Jackson’s dedication, the BET Awards definitely did their thing. Although a few people showed little disappointment with the overall production, most fans and award viewers were simply outraged by Lil Wayne and Drake’s performance of “Every Girl” in which they were joined on stage by Lil Wayne’s daughter and several other pre-teen girls.

Journalists as well as many viewers found this performance to be a bit strange and very distasteful for the tribute of Michael Jackson.  City Pages says:

“And then came Lil Wayne, in a five minute flurry of such bad taste and poor judgment one can only assume that he was high or simply confused. He performed his new single “Every Girl.” In light of the somber tone of the evening, the performance would have been gauche enough. But onstage with him at the time were several pre-teen girls, who danced in loose choreography and flocked around Lil Wayne like a prepubescent harem.”

According to the Examiner:

“Overrall, the show was a big downer because… many things just seemed out of place. For example, Drake’s performance had Lil’ Wayne and his pre-teen daughter with other young girls on stage rapping along to “Every Girl in the World,” which is a song about having escapades with all the girls in the world.”

Twitter and Facebook became the main source of people revealing their disappointment of the performance. From celebrities to high profile magazines, everyone had something to say about it.

“Lil’ wayne + wanting to f*ck every girl + w/ young girls on stage = smh, pure mess. how did bet miss how inappropriate that was?! (TheSourceMag’s Twitter)
these girls onstage look a littttttle tooooo young to be the subject of this song. could be the red tutu (AngelaYee’s Twitter)

Okay I have a problem! Why are there 12 year olds on stage while Drake and Lil Wayne singing this song!! I as like is that a little GIRL????? and then I was like wait there are more lil kids! HUH?? (TiaMowry’s Twitter)

Drake/Lil Wayne performance really pissed me off by bringing those young 10 year old girls singing I would F ever girl in the world. (IPRMKTG’s Twitter)”

I do agree that the little girls should not have been on stage. Whether you were saying I wish I could LOVE every girl in the world or the true lyrics, it was still inappropriate in my opinion. Although they were just most likely Lil Wayne’s daughter and her friends, obviously it was taken the wrong way and was done in very poor taste. I don’t mind the fact that the song was performed because let’s be honest folks, no one expected MJ to pass away. They had been performing this for weeks and his death was unexpected, which meant that BET had to rush in order for the tribute to take place.

Personally I don’t even think Drake should have been able to perform with a torn ACL. He sat down the entire time and I think that he basically cheated his fans out of a potentially great performance. I must admit I was a bit disappointed but there’s always next year and Wayne, leave the kids at home please!

Jim Jones Ends Beef With Mase

Finally the beef is over! Recently Byrd Gang leader Jim Jones has officially ended his rap feud with former Bad Boy rapper Mase, claiming that his previous verbal attacks were only due to his immaturity.

In a phone conversation/interview with DJ Self and Mase, Jones openly apologized to Mase on Power 105.1:

“What’s good Beth, what’s poppin’,” Jones asked in a phone interview towards Mase. “How you feeling? Hey man, that’s what’s up, I just wanted to tell you I tip my hat to you. I apologize for everything I did when I was younger. You can get my number from Self and sh*t like that. Pardon my French. Pardon, pardon me it’s monumental that’s why I’ma get off it. You already know Betha, it’s nothing but love. Self’s got my number, I’m jumping off the line. I’ll holla, Jones.”

The beef initially stemmed from a financial dispute that took place between Cam’ron and Mase back in the late 90s. According to Hip Hop-Beef:

“In 2004, Cam’ron and his former friend Mase had a falling out over $50,000 that Mase requested for being in one of Cam’ron’s music videos. Mase put the beef into the news by conducting an interview at Hot 97, a New York City radio station. During the interview Camron’s label mate called in and began a heated on-air argument. Jim Jones accused Mase of fabricating his autobiography and criticized him for using real peoples names in his book. Jones went on to say “you wasn’t giving us money, so we went out and got our money.” Further insulting Mase by saying that they didn’t need him anymore as they were extremely successful in their Diplomats Purple Sizzurp Liquor venture. Jones also claimed that Mase didn’t leave Harlem at his own will, but that he was run out in fear of his life after the deaths of his two friends, Baby Mane and Pop Lotti.

In addition, Dipset released their anti-Mase anthem entitled “Take Em To Church.”
A few lyrics include:

“Yo, you try to handle us,” Cam raps. “Get on the air and damage us/Screaming out Harlem (huh) like you ain’t just a fan to us (Where you been at?)/Well let me fill you in, now it’s a whole clan of us/Blink so mad, he went and beat up Canibus/Zeke got shot then Zeke locked up (then)/E got killed (what else?)/B popped up/But B hopped up and still broke out his chest/On probation, Doe on house arrest (what up Doe)”

Jones later clarified his actual issues with Mase. According to Six Shot, Jones had this to say:

“I was just caliing up to the radio,” he explained in an November 2004 interview. “I was a little hot that day and couldn’t believe what I was hearing and I decided to set the record straight. I didn’t appreciate what I was hearing.”

Well it looks as if this very pointless beef is finally over. Obviously Mase isn’t tripping and has decided to focus on his latest return to the rap game. He has recently graced Drake’s Best I Ever Had” remix, showing that his comeback is not too far away. This has definitely proven to be one exciting year. Good luck Mase, Welcome Back…Again!
