The case was initially adjourned until August 25th, but X’s lawyer, Murray Richman, said that the date was changed after Richman deemed it inconvenient. Though he confirmed that a deal was proposed and rejected, Richman stressed that it was "much too early" to speak on the case.

The case stems from a (June 2) incident in which X (Born Earl Simmons ) was stopped in downtown White Plains for driving his 2001 Chevy Suburban at unreasonable speeds and making unsafe lane changes. Police who pulled him over said they found the rapper not wearing a seat belt and without a driver’s license.

A New York judge issued an arrest warrant for DMX after he missed his June 29 court date. DMX was also cited for carrying a concealed handgun outside a nightclub in Scottsdale, AZ on Friday, June 16, was ticketed for causing a car accident in New York on June 11 and arrested at Heathrow airport for verbal abusing an airline crew on May 15.
