Hip Hop lost one of it’s most sampled and beloved forefathers. Jimmy Castor, saxophonist and leader of the seminal funk/disco group Jimmy Castor Bunch, passed away yesterday at 64.

According to Prefix Mag, the legendary saxophonist who struck it big in 1972 with the song “Troglodyte (Cave Man)” passed away at 2:30 p.m. at the age of 64 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The cause of his death is currently unknown.

Castor’s music has been sampled by dozens of Hip Hop artists over the years, including Eric B. and Rakim, the Ultramagnetic MCs, N.W.A., Kanye West and others. His song “It’s Just Begun” also became a staple break of ’70s and ’80s b-boy scene, even appearing as the backing track for the Rock Steady Crew in the film Flashdance.
