Soulja Boy Blames Nas for the Death of Hip-Hop

What is going on in Hip-Hop as of late? We are only in the beginning of 2009 and already we have fresh controversy to the hit news, I guess somebody needed something to whine about. We are all aware of Hip-Pop artist, Soulja Boy’s failed attempt with his sophomore LP isouljaboytellem. As far as sales for the album, it came in at an embarrassing low from his debut. The ‘Crank That’ originator is literally blaming Nas for his lack of sales. He is saying that the icon is responsible for killing Hip-Hop after coining the phrase ‘Hip-Hop is Dead’ on his eighth studio LP.

The blatant comments came within months of another feud between him and veteran rapper, Ice T. Is it just us or is Soulja Boy on the verge of destroying his own career” These were the actual comments that surfaced onto the net:

“Real talk, the nigga that killed hip-hop for real is Nas. That nigga killed hip-hop. He came out publicly and said ‘hip-hop is dead’ and everybody started saying ‘hip-hop is dead, hip-hop is dead’”

It’s quite interesting how after these comments surfaced, his home was allegedly raided by a couple of marauders who felt the need to carry high-powered weapons and wear ski-masks while doing so. His sophomore LP, isouljaboytellem debuted at number 43 on the charts and has sold roughly around 80,000 copies since its release in December. In its first week, the album failed to rack in the sales made by his debut, the album sold 43,000 copies in its initial week of release.

What is Hip-Hop coming to? I mean let’s be real for second, how the hell can any artist blame another artist for his lack of sales on an LP that is ridiculous. On the real, I’m thinking people just got tired of Soulja Boy, I mean you had your spotlight in the game for that brief moment with something the kids enjoyed, but they’ve moved on to something else, unless you comeback with a better single. Your only blame here is lack of interest. I can’t wait to see what Nas has up his sleeves as a response for Soulja Boy. Honestly though, if I was Nas I wouldn’t even waste my time.

Jay-Z Lacks Funds to Continue Hotel Venture

New York, NY – It was reported earlier in 2007 that Hip-Hop mogul, Jay-Z, ventured into the hospitality business. In what became business worthy news for many media outlets, Hov sought into building prestigious hotels in New York City in a joint venture with hotel developer Charles Blaichman. Well, apparently those plans have been halted indefinitely due to lack of necessary funds.

According to the New York Times, the amount needed to continue the hotel venture required was an estimated $370 million to cover all three of his J Hotels. Between both Jay and Blaichman, the venture included the rental of a former Time Warner Cable warehouse located in New York’s West Chelsea neighborhood. This was to serve as Jay’s grand debut hotel. Unfortunately, the project has been put on hold due to the fact that the banks were unable to secure the amount needed for the loan.

At press time, Jay-Z is in the process of completing third installment to the Blueprint series to be released sometime in the first quarter of this year. ‘The Blueprint 3’ will serve as his last album under contract with Def Jam Recordings. As of 2008, Hov has officially signed with Live Nation under a $150 million deal which will eventually include a record label, talent/management agency, and music publishing company. This venture which has been titled Roc Nation will begin as soon as he completes the contract under Def Jam. The mogul has also created a new label with mega heavyweight producers Stargate under the venture StarRoc Entertainment. Stargate consists of Norwegian producers Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen, they are single-handedly responsible for mega hits from R&B artists, Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Beyonce, and Paula Anda. As a matter of fact, Stargate is practically Ne-Yo’s go-to production team for almost all of his music. StarRoc will be based out of Jay’s Roc the Mic Studio in Manhattan.

Jay-Z is literally a monster when it comes down to business ventures, he knows where and when to make the right moves. I mean part owner of the New Jersey Nets, part owner of the 40/40 Club, and now hotel ventures, what he will sign to next. Not to mention his rap career is still at an all time high. I can imagine the turnout of ‘The Blueprint 3’ especially if he’s working with Stargate now, picture another hit record with Ne-Yo and Jay or Rihanna and Jay. And the Roc reign will continue. What the hell happened to Dash?

Death Row Records Unreleased Catalogue Up for Sale

Los Angeles, CA – Ever since Marion ‘Suge’ Knight filed for bankruptcy back in 2006, it seems like his financial issues are continuing to decline. Quite possibly the only valuable item that would have kept him afloat for time being was the music catalogue containing unreleased tracks from 2Pac and Snoop Dogg. He apparently wanted to hold and keep it until the time needed to release them would come about. Unfortunately he was forced to release them along with the guidelines in the bankruptcy.

That music catalogue is about to go up for sale in the upcoming weeks and the situation now is, people are afraid to buy them. According to Daily News, label execs are uncomfortable with purchasing the said tracks because they don’t want to cross paths with Knight, as some state, he still thinks they rightfully belong to him. Whatever the case may be, I guess the world will never get chance to hear those tracks if they can’t even get a buyer. Whenever we discover who does purchase them 24hourhiphop.com will be sure to let you know.

Once a bully, always a bully, Suge will always be the same person he was in the 90s. And even with this, it is quite childish to hold on to something that you legally let go of 4 years ago now.

Video of Lil Wayne’s Fall from Grace

Chicago, IL. – In the industry, it has been known that artists aren’t perfect. Every now and then they have mishaps that are beyond their control, however, it is the way they handle the mishaps that makes them respectable. During a concert in Chicago, Lil Wayne takes a slip and fall while performing on stage. In front of a sold out crowd, he gets back and commences into the song just like a professional.

I respect Weezy for getting back up and continuing his performance like nothing happened, instead of running off stage like most other artists. The stage must have just been waxed from the way he fell. The video is self-explanatory.
