Russell Simmons, who serves as chairman of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN), launched the tour in 2005 to speak to young adults and community members about the importance of financial literacy. This year’s "Get Your Money Right" tour kicked off last month in Detroit with the support of Three 6 Mafia, Stat Quo and Obie Trice.

Sponsored by Chrysler Financial and Anheuser-Busch, the tour will also be making stops in Atlanta on September 16, September 30 in Los Angeles and October 14 in Dallas. At the Miami summit, the aforementioned rappers and financial experts will give attendees advice about the basics of banking, home ownership, repairing bad credit and understanding credit scores, entrepreneurship, vehicle financing and other monetary issues.

"Miami is one of the major centers of hip-hop culture," said HSAN President/CEO Dr. Benjamin Chavis via a statement." Given the city’s diversity and strong traditions of musical genius, the Miami Hip-Hop Summit will be one of the most diverse and culturally stimulating summits of our 2006 tour. Our focus is on the financial basics and empowerment in the context of celebrating the evolution of hip-hop in Miami and throughout the Southeast region of the United States, as well as across Latin America." "Hip-Hop is about improving the quality of life for all people" added Russell Simmons via a statement. "It is our mission to raise the level of consciousness among young adults about the importance of financial literacy and empowerment. We are committed to helping people get themselves out of poverty."

The Miami Hip-Hop Summit will take place at Florida Memorial University’s A. Chester Robinson Athletic Center from 1:30-3:30p.m. on May 20.
