The cast of Scarface, including Tony Montana himself, Al Pacino, have reunited to promote the Blu-ray release of the ’80s classic. Alongside Pacino, who was seated on his legendary throne, were actors Steven Bauer, Robert Loggia, F Murray Abraham and producer Martin Bregman.

Speaking to MTV about the film’s lasting legacy and its current influence on pop culture, Pacino said:

“The hip-hop people and the rappers got together and they made a video and they talked about the movie. I don’t think anybody’s ever talked about it as articulately and clearly. I understood it better having heard them talk about it.”

The video to which Pacino refers is the Def Jam documentary, Scarface: Origins Of A Hip Hop Classic, which featured interviews with, among others, Nas, Method Man and Snoop Dogg. At the afterparty for the Blu-ray launch, Ludacris performed for the guests.

At the promotional event it was also revealed that the idea to remake Scarface – already a classic gangster film of the ’30s – came from Pacino. He said:

“Seeing the Howard Hawks film at the Tiffany Theatre here in Los Angeles on Sunset Boulevard. I went and saw the film and called Martin Bregman and said I think we could do this thing as a remake or something.”

Scarface, originally released in 1983, directed by Brian De Palma and written by Oliver Stone, told the story of a Cuban immigrant taking over the drug trade in Miami.
