New York, NY – It goes without saying, ‘Why do all the good die young?’ As Hip-Hop continues to mourn the death of Cali Swag District’s M-Bone, born Mantae Talbert, the New Boyz reflected on his life as they knew him.

MTV News recently sat down with Legacy and Ben J of the New Boyz and asked them to remember M-Bone during a sorrowful interview.

These were their comments:

Ben J commenced:

“What we feel can’t compare to what the homeys Cali Swag District feel,” Ben J said. “We knew him, we hung out with him, had a couple of times, and it was great times. Just the fact that I knew him, it kinda hurt me when I heard about that. I dropped a couple of tears, man. It wasn’t his time, real talk. He had a lot of success to go.”

As Legacy added:

“I think it’s real messed up that somebody gotta hate on another person,” Legacy said. “I don’t really know the situation, but it never has to escalate to that. And dude was real talented. He was making money, having a good time, living his dream. My prayers go out to Cali Swag, M-Bone’s family, everybody. Rest in peace, M-Bone.”

The New Boyz and Cali Swag District journeyed down very similar paths during their upstart within the industry. Both groups received recognition being apart of Hip-Hop dance scene that commenced in California. The Boyz gained much recognition with their 2009 platinum dance single ‘You’re a Jerk,’ while Cali Swag gained theirs through the 2010 hit ‘Teach Me How to Dougie.’ The two groups would eventually cross paths at radio stations and show venues during their respective promotional tours. The New Boyz even provided a cameo in Cali Swag District’s ‘Teach Me How to Dougie’ music video.
