Victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita were treated to the benefit concert on Sunday (October 9th) in Atlanta. The concert, along with exclusive documentary-style moments with the artists, fans and evacuees in attendance, will be aired as a one-hour special on BET on October 19th at 8pm EST.

Usher in conjunction with corporate sponsors and local civil leaders, including Mayor Shirley Franklin, invited 5,000 evacuees who were relocated to the Atlanta area to attend the concert free of charge. All of the proceeds of the concert will be used to fulfill Project Restart’s main objective-to help Katrina victims settle into permanent or semi-permanent homes.

The concert is just one of many high-profile outreach events planned by Project Restart, launched by Usher’s New Look Foundation. The organization has also developed a partnership with Usher’s Camp New Look and local non profit groups like the Atlanta-based Hands On Network to help recruit volunteers to become a Hands On Hero by donating time, leadership and special skills to help with Project Restart.

Clothing chain Armani Exchange pitched in by producing a limited edition Usher Signature long sleeve t-shirt to be sold online with all sales benefiting Project Restart.

The Project Restart Benefit Concert special will debut on October 19th at 8pm EST.
