24HHH: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are:

D.Bandz: Whats goin on? My name is D.Bandz. I’m a rapper/producer from Oklahoma. Trying to make my way and show that you can do anything just being yourself.

24HHH: How did you come up with your Producer/Artist name? Tell us about it.

D.Bandz: Really, “Deezy” is what my friends all call me because my real name is actually David. So for a while I was just going by that. With literally no distinction. Lol. And I don’t know man, once I started seeing money, “D.Bandz” just came and stuck. It felt right.

24HHH: Where are you from, and what was it like growing up there?

D.Bandz: I was born in Tulsa, OK. But the first city I ever lived in was Wagoner. So I look at that as like, my starting point. I went to Coweta in 4th grade and stayed until I graduated. But throughout that time I was all over the place. I lived in Broken Arrow with my dad at one point and actually lived in BA not too long ago before I moved again. So I’ve always been kind of everywhere lol.

24HHH: Who were you raised by? Tell us your family situation. Got any brothers, sisters, or any siblings? Tell us about your childhood, and how it impacted your music?

D.Bandz: I was raised mostly by my mother. When I was 3 my parents split. So from 3 to 12 I was back and forth a lot. I absolutely hated my dad’s house. We just never got along. I was very artistic and creative and he didn’t understand that. So from a young age I kind of quit trying to prove myself to him. When I was 12, I told him I didn’t wanna do it anymore and he just let me do my own thing. Haven’t really seen him a lot since then. He was at my graduation. And i saw him one other time after that. But he didn’t recognize me. Honestly, though, it was good for me man. Because of that, I didn’t have much of a father type figure. My older brother was around, but he was doin his own thing. So I was on my own early on in my teens and had to learn from my own mistakes.

But having an older brother helped definitely. I looked up to him. Lol. He’s probably the reason I rap. I would see him wearing expensive clothes and jewelry and shit. And I would try his shit on when he left it out. Lol. So I kind of always strived for that type of stuff. My brother got in so much trouble, though, because he was in and out of jail. That I got to kind of learn what not to do as I was going.

24HHH: What age did you start making music?

D.Bandz: I was 10 or 11 years old. Like I said earlier, I was so artistic when I was younger. That my friends and I had talked about “what if we make a cartoon?” and “what if this and that”. It got to the point that I was just kind of like “what’s something artistic I haven’t tried yet?”. And music was the answer. So from there my friends and I started a band. We would have band sessions in the garage and I would end up taking over unintentionally. I would be like “what if you play the guitar like this” or “what if you play the drums like this”. I didn’t realize it yet, but I was already a one man band. Trying to orchestrate everything together. I was also writing lyrics and singing. The lyrics I was writing were raps that I was creating. I was into rap type of metal and rock music lol. So I was kinda setting up the template for myself.

24HHH: What inspired you to pursue making music?

D.Bandz: We were trying to record things as a band with a computer microphone, and a laptop. It was going terribly. And once I had time to myself I came across some beats and saw the microphone. And I was like, “I could rap”. And literally from that one thought at age 13, started everything. The band thing just dropped off and I fell in love with hip hop. And I haven’t looked back since.

24HHH: What artists/producers do you work with? Or rubbed shoulders with?

D.Bandz: I work a lot with Black Mo of The Syndicate. Which is a group of different producers. They’re all dope. But mostly I’ve been working with Black Mo, D2theJ, Lego Beatz (of Time Hitz) and like I said, I produce as well. That’s pretty much it man. The Syndicate is like home team. So I pretty much just keep it there. I’m down to work with whoever though. Anybody who really just loves the music and being creative.

24HHH: What else you got coming out? New Album? or Mixtape/EP?

D.Bandz: I got my new mixtape I’m working on right now called “Don’t Do Drugz”. I’m excited about it and the sound that it brings to the table. I just dropped 2 new songs from it. The first single “Nothingz Wrong”, which I want to shoot a video for soon. And the 4/20 exclusive I dropped which is called “Strong Loud Kush Gas”. I don’t really want to drop anymore music from it until people kinda jump on those records first. But I definitely got more singles lined up and some things up my sleeve. So stay tuned!

24HHH: Tell us about your newest single “Nothingz Wrong”, how did you come up with that, share us the story?

D.Bandz: With “Nothingz Wrong”, I had the name before anything. The concept just came to me one night. I had tried some different ideas on different beats and it wasn’t working. And when I found the Lego beat it just came alive. I knocked the record out, and the rest is history.

24HHH: What is the biggest thing to happen in your career?

D.Bandz: Honestly, I feel like the best has yet to come. But, I’m sure we’ll talk again one day.

24HHH: Where can people find you?

D.Bandz: You can follow me on twitter at

24HHH: Where do you see yourself going in 2014 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?

D.Bandz: I feel like the music really separates itself man. I like to make music that makes you feel good and that’s positive. You know? I want it to boost your confidence and make you feel like you don’t care what other people say and shit. My music is really just to motivate and uplift others and show that you can be yourself and be different. And on top of that, it’s fun music. It’s fun to listen to. I feel like anybody can relate to my music. It’s deeper than just smoking weed and fuckin girls. You just gotta listen. I definitely plan on pushing this new single and working on finishing my next tape. Big things coming soon!

24HHH: Any last words or shout outs?

D.Bandz: Yea man, first off, thank you for the interview and shout out to 24hourhiphop.com
