24: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are.
Don Meeno: Name’s Don Meeno, for those who don’t know the kid. From Hamden, Connecticut, been out in Toronto, Canada for like 5 years now. I make ill ass music and party hard like a muhfucker, and yeah I even grind harder. I’m 17 years old by the way.
24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about how you got into and what inspired you?
Don Meeno: My big brother was always writing rhymes in his bedroom, so I fed off of that for a while, and by the time I came out here to Canada I was writing rhymes of my own in my bedroom. I have a bunch of homies who spit too, so we would spit our written shit to each other the night’s after we’re done mastering the verses and memorizing them to spit them at school.
24: What was the Hip-Hop scene like for you growing up where you’re from?
Don Meeno: The Hip-Hop scene was pretty much the same material most east side dudes were listening too. Biggie, Pac, Nas, Jada, DMX, Jay-z, 50-cent, Ludacris, T.I, all them kats. Nah, just that east side stuff, but everything else as well.
24: What makes you Unique as a artist and different from other rappers out now?
Don Meeno: Versatility is a big thing for this Hip-Hop thing, the more versatile you are, the farther you’ll probably go. That’s apart of what makes me different, and allows me to make music for all different styles. and you know the kid’s 17.
24: Tell us about what you are working on.
Don Meeno: Just wrapped up the Rookie Year mixtape, and right now I’m working on baking up another one, the work never stops on this side.
24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?
Don Meeno: I’ve worked with a variety of different producers. Producers like WHP, SB on the beat, Lexi Bankz, Flash, DT Music and much more.
24: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released?
Don Meeno: Yeah, of course I gotta appreciate those who take time out to take in my material. Makes me wanna go hard everytime I hear someone compliment my shit.
24: In today’s free download age, what do you need to do to make your self a household name?
Don Meeno: You need to be creative and set your image, many of these artists in the music world have some sort of unique thing about them which causes them to stand out to people and that’s what supporters all love. So a unique style using creativity is what makes any artist a household name.
24: How do you feel about the current state of the Hip-Hop scene?
Don Meeno: The current stage of Hip-Hop has changed ridiculously, but in a good way. Many artists can have the possibility of making it big because of the internet world. But it’s mad difficult for all young artists at the same time, because there’s so much competition now.
24: Outside of the music, what else are you currently working on?
Don Meeno: I’m working on helping to build this Genius Monkey Group, scheming up on my clothing line and just building myself as an artist.
24: Where do you see yourself going in 2012 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artist out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve?
Don Meeno: I plan to go ham on my promoting, connecting with the people, staying versatile and putting out great music. I see myself grinding hella hard for this year and never letting up on this rap thing i wanna do.
