24: Introduce yourself to everyone that doesn’t already know who you are.
Golden: Well, first let me start by saying, thanks for blessing me with this interview! For, those who don’t know me.. my name, is GOLDEN. I’m from a small town in North Carolina called Kinston. I am a songwriter, and recording artist that sing and rap! I know I put it out there a little different, but that’s me! (Laughs)
24: Before we get into your music, can you describe your history about how you got into and what inspired you?
Golden: I’ve always loved music by artist’s, like Micheal Jackson, R. kelly, Biggie, Nas, and Tu-pac, just to name a few! Listening, to their music, really kept me at ease when life would frustrate me!!… My mom, is one of the main reasons, I begin to take, my love for music to the next level… I was singing at a family gathering, Just goofing (laughs), my mom said to me “if you stop playing you would actually sound good”.. Long story short… that touch me and crunk my engine… my drive started from there. I begin at the age of 11 writing my own material and singing or rapping it to others. Then, I begin to love seeing people react to it.
24: What was the Hip-Hop scene like for you growing up where you’re from?
Golden: I’m from a small town, so, there really wasn’t much of a music scene. Although, there were and still are many talented artist there, they don’t have much of an outlet. It was tough, trying to pursue music there, do to the lack of outlets. No one believes and everyone thinks, it’s out of reach… so, when it came to real support for motivation… it wasn’t happening! I, pretty much got my jewels and motivation from the tv, a book, or a cd, Until I was old enough to get away… And that’s what I did!
24: What makes you Unique as a artist and different from other rappers out now?
Golden: I love this question (Laughs)… I think we are all one of the same, we all create our art in a musical form, to deliver a message. Let’s step away from music for a second… as people… no matter race, sex, or religion, We are all one of the same… We are all here for the same purpose… to live, reproduce, and die… we, just all have our own way, of transitioning between the three, when it comes to our own individual life.. until we make it to the “end” .. so to answer that question (pause)… what makes me unique is… I am GOLDEN and they are them!
24: Tell us about what you are working on.
Golden: Right now, I am working on building a strong catalog and collaborating with other strong artists.
24: What producers have you worked with and who would you like to work with in the future?
Golden: I’ve, been blessed to work with many different producers, from NC, VA, NYC, ATL, and ect. As for the future… I would love to work with any and every serious producer, that wants to work with me… no preference nor limits.
24: Are you happy with the feedback you have been getting from people on material you have released?
Golden: Of course, its always great to get feedback… positive or negative. The fact that new, old, and future fans, take the time to listen… is a blessing! It helps motivate me, to write more songs.
24: In today’s free download age, what do you need to do to make yourself a household name?
Golden: Stay active and entertaining. Not, only is free downloading a problem, Its so many people promoting themselves, through the cyber world… its hard for consumers, to filter through the madness (laughs)… so, just staying active and entertaining. Outside of that… doing shows, Hitting the hot spot, networking, throwing events to interact with the fans… I feel, doing things such as those… would help me, not only become a household name.. it helps me become an inspiration!
24: How do you feel about the current state of the Hip-Hop scene?
Golden: The world can’t change people, people change the world.. Music, is one of the main tools to accomplish such. (Sigh) I feel sorry for the world… I feel there isn’t much, real love or respect for the art anymore. They’ve, taken an art that can touch and change lives.. And turned it into a way to get filthy rich.. so now a days, that’s what most artists, do it for! I think the music scene.. need more artist, that do it for the love of music and not the money!
24: Outside of the music, what else are you currently working on?
Golden: Nothing, much to tell here.. gotta crawl before I walk.. I’m working on something dealing with music 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 360 days in the year… I take 5 days off… Christmas and thanksgiving with the fam, and 3 birthdays I have to be available for. Just follow me… with time, there is much more outside of music, that I plan to accomplish. (Smiles)
24: Where do you see yourself going in 2013 and how do you plan to separate yourself from the other artists out today to get the recognition you feel you deserve
Golden: 2013 is definitely the year for me and the team. The plan, is to feed the world a “GOLDEN” dinner, they will enjoy and come back for seconds (laughs). Once, we accomplish that… i’ll be back on 24hourhiphop.com, doing another interview, with a new plan for 2014 (Laughs). As for separating myself from other artists… like I mentioned earlier… we are all one of the same, with the exception, that I’m “GOLDEN” … I don’t sound like anyone and no one sounds like me. I will be doing, what a few other artists are doing… and that’s adding substances to my music and writing for my fans… So they can learn me, love me, use me as a stress or pain reliever, and a source for similar or better ideas for their life and situations… AND NOT JUST FOR, THEIR DOLLARS!
24: How can fans go about contacting you?
24: Thank you for providing 24HourHipHop with this exclusive interview, do you have any last words for your present and future fans?
Golden: I would like to say thanks, again for this interview.. Look forward to seeing GOLDEN, more in the near future. Walk with me and watch me grow. Much love to all my fans that supports me.. without you all, I am a nobody and I would just be a guy with a gift. Thanks for helping me become a somebody!! FOCUS
