24HHH: How did you come up with your Producer/Artist name? Tell us about it.

Tone Gunz: Tone Gunz It’s a play off of my name, Anthony Gonzales. When I was younger it was “Tony Gunz”, but everyone called me “Tone.” Eventually it stuck.

24HHH: Where are you from, and what was it like growing up there?

Tone Gunz: I’m from Modesto, Ca, born and raised. As far as growing up there, its just a different atmosphere. Ever since I was a kid, I could remember seeing smokers up and down the streets. You become accustomed to things like that. I mean you had your good kids, then you had some kids banging in middle school, strapped and the whole shit. It can be a grimy city but I love it, and rep it to the fullest. Made me what I am today.

24HHH: Who were you raised by? Tell us your family situation. Got any brothers, sisters, or any siblings? Tell us about your childhood, and how it impacted your music?

Tone Gunz: I was raised by my Mother and Step-Father until the age of 16, but after my mothers death I moved in with family friends for awhile. I have one brother and two sisters that I was raised with and another brother I rarely get to see. My childhood was pretty normal until around age 12. After the passing of my grandmother, I watched my mother and step father fight an addiction to pills. Life got crazy for a sec. Eventually my mom lost that battle. She passed when I was 15, I moved out a year later, and my life took a different path. Never knew my biological dad. He was always just in and out, here in there in our lives. Fighting his own addictions.

24HHH: What inspired you to pursue making music?

Tone Gunz: The impact on my music was and is crucial. I put a lot of my real life and real emotion into my lyrics. Experiences gave my a different view on the world, and gave me a lot of drive also. I mean, I’ve seen the bottom of the bottom. I’m trying to put me and mine in a better position.

24HHH: What age did you start making music?

Tone Gunz: I started writing music around age 12, but I didn’t actually try to record anything till I was like 16.

24HHH: What inspired you to pursue making music?

Tone Gunz: I’ve always been a fan of hip hop. I remember my uncle slapping E40 and Eazy-E in our apartment complex. I started rapping at school as I got older, battles, ciphers, more for fun then anything. I beat almost everyone and I was getting a lot of positive feedback from people hearing me. Decided I wanted to try to start writing and recording songs.

I think I decided that this is what I wanted to do was after I recorded those first couple songs. The feeling of having people slap my music and connect with it, genuinely like it, was addicting to me. It still is. I want to be the one to put my whole city on!
