Artist: Brisco
Mixtape: OG Kush
Label: Poe Boy Music Group/Young Money/Cash Money
The Opa Locka Goon is back once again, this time with newer material that he was just waiting to release to his most dedicated that stretch across half the nation. With every mixtape that Brisco releases his artistic level always continues to step up a notch. Everything from his delivery to his subject matter puts forth much emphasis on his experiences and things that he just wants to make clear. Mind you, this is the second time Brisco has released a mixtape without that of a DJ or any other sought.
The heavy promos behind ‘OG Kush’ continuously pushed for literally a 4/20 release date, even to the point where word of mouth spread and the fans remembered the actual release date. Even with the introduction of new artists and their assistance, Brisco can still take a beat and place his element on it precisely. Between his lyricism and the production he chose to grace this prelude to his debut, it literally skyrockets Brisco to whole different level from that of ‘The Revenge’ and the mixtapes before. This tape alone is already getting mass critical acclaim.
From the start, ‘Anita’ jumps into an old school sample beat from Anita Baker with Bris coming in with his signature sound. As he narrates a story, you get an idea of the Anita he is referring to. With ‘Spend Something,’ ex Bottom of the Map member Asia, formerly known as Princess Asia, adds her vocal talent to an up tempo track with an interesting flow. Yet again Brisco puts forth another storyline exhibiting the reason why he is Cash Money/Young Money.
On the track ‘Lambo Life,’ Brisco adds assistance from the talents of Iceberg, Papa Duck, and newcomers Mike Bliss, Frank Linin, and Troy2davent. From jump, the hook is real catchy exhibiting a life of riches and glorifying that of lambo life. Aside from the eccentric title, ‘Bald Head Tosha,’ is another up tempo track that provides an interesting flow. R&B newcomer Joe Boom even adds a certain touch to the track making it an interesting ghetto ballad. According to Bris, every hood has a bald head Tosha.
From ‘Lambo Life’ to ‘Lavish Life,’ he literally provides a look into the life that he is leading right now. Poe Boy veteran, Rodney Cash, adds his vocal talents to this vibe track that allows you to study his unique style. The beat itself even meshes with the song quite well. From jewelry to cars to strip clubs, he exhibits Poe Boy lifestyles. ‘Keep Risin’ by Kane Beatz is basically a hit in its own right. The track takes Brisco out of his element for just a second proving that he can be versatile on any track put in front of him. If anything, it sounds like a theme song for the young Poe Boy artist. With the assistance of Git Fresh on the hook providing a melodic tune to ‘Ain’t nothing is gonna hold me back, ain’t nothing gonna break me down, I keep Risin,’ giving it that catchy flow. The track is a certified banger off top.
On the real, this 13 track mixtape gives a glimpse of what’s to come, even with the release of a title like OG Kush on that of 4/20, was a great idea. ‘Street Medicine’ is still on its way with more bangers from the Opa Locka Goon himself. There are some serious tracks on this mixtape that has the subject matter on the right path that still exhibits his elemental sound.
Notable Tracks: ‘Anita,’ ‘Spend Something,’ ‘Lambo Life,’ ‘Bald Head Tosha,’ ‘Dat Nigga,’ ‘RMG,’ ‘Lavish Life,’ and ‘Keep Risin.’
