Artist: DJ Khaled & Various Artists
Album: We Global
Label: We the Best Music/Terror Squad/Koch Records
Rating: 3 out of 5 Clocks
The saying has always been ‘third time’s a charm,’ well in this case, Miami-based radio personality, DJ Khaled has done again for the third consecutive time, with this last year’s heavyweight compilation, ‘We Global.’ Every year since 2006, Khaled has managed to ensemble a list of major artists from all over the nation, East, West, Midwest, South; you name it, all to comprise practically a mega album with epic proportions. It is without a doubt his loyalty lies deep within Miami roots proof is shown from the list of artists ranging from Rick Ross to Brisco to Flo Rida to Trick Daddy and the Dunk Ryders to even Pitbull, which, unfortunately, didn’t make the cut on last year’s ‘We the Best.’ This time around, however, Khaled has had the chance to incorporate the two missing pieces that he was without in the first two major LPs, his own artist Ace Hood and his label imprint under Def Jam, We the Best Music Group.
The production on this studio album was chosen on a high level next to perfection, practically every artist from all over the industry took their shot at making the cut. He has always been known to incorporate the different sounds from different heavyweight producers depending on with the beat match the song he was considering with the artists that were to grace that hit track. This album incorporated most of the production from Khaled favorite go to production team, The Runners, they virtually produced two of the hit singles, so far, as the third has yet to be released. Other production teams include: Danja, Gold Ru$h, Cool & Dre, and the Diaz Brothers. Each individual heavyweight producer add their own originality to their tracks, if you’ve been listening to their sounds long enough, you begin to depict and recognize their unique pattern, when it boils down to it, it’s not even that hard to decipher the differences.
Each track has its own separate flare to it as Khaled incorporates different artists to different beats. With the track ‘Go Hard,’ which is ironically The Runners production, he fuses together the talents and vocals T-Pain alongside the lyricism of Kanye West. There’s a reason why that song is a Top 40 radio hit as of now. Another Runners beat was the first single to be released off the album back in June, ‘Out Here Grindin.’ That track features the vocals of Akon with the lyricism of Plies, Lil Boosie, Rick Ross, Ace Hood, and Trick Daddy, when that was first released, it was already a club banger. Miami-based producers Cool & Dre even added their talents into the mix on a track featuring the legendary Nas, with vocals talents from Dre, let’s real, what is a Khaled album without Cool & Dre. One interesting track that caught my attention is that of the Dunk Ryders hit Fuck the Otherside that featured the Miami hood legend, Trick Daddy. This is the last track you would think could grace a Khaled album, but nevertheless it was produced by Gold Ru$h and probably the only track without a Khaled intro.
To be quite honest this new album ‘We Global,’ wasn’t what I was expecting. Last year’s album ‘We the Best,’ had a little more flare and attitude to it, either way, Khaled probably had this in the works for a while already. If you follow the pattern of all his album titles you begin to see a trend. I gave the album 3 out of 5 clocks for lyricism and sound.
Other notable tracks included: ‘Go Ahead,’ ‘We Global,’ ‘Blood Money,’ and ‘Defend Dade.’
